W3 R3 today and all is looking good. A first time runner, this is a whole revelation to me and I'm still pinching myself, is this really me getting my trainers on in the freezing weather and looking forward to it??! Loving the way I feel, lighter and more energy. Only niggle is a bit of pain down one shin...just don't want this to stop me!!
Week 3 smashed it!: W3 R3 today and all is... - Couch to 5K
Week 3 smashed it!
Great stuff Northern ! Sounds like youve taken to it like a duck to water , Well done to you !
Take care with that shin, put some ice on it just in case and more rest days if you need them.
Keep going , youre doing great ! xxx
well done northern you are doing just great . Like poppy says take care of that shin ,rest up as long as you need to
Will do! Had it a bit on R2 this week and it did go after a day, hopefully that's the trick. Would be gutted now to have to stop am on a roll !
Well done on getting to week 4. Have you got proper running shoes as the wrong shoes can cause shin pain.
Quite possibly just using the trainers I had. Maybe it's time to upgrade now I'm a committed C25k-Er! How on earth do you know if you have the right trainers?
Take a deep breath, go to a dedicated running shop, ask for advice and ideally have gait analysis, if you run on road. They are not cheap, but in a few weeks you will not begrudge the cost, especially if they cure your aches.
Good luck fellow junkie.
Thanks for the advice that's interesting....I think it's worth it whatever so I don't get de-railed !
I can recommend Sweatshop for advice and gait analysis. They were great. You're going really well so if you can get your shin sorted there will be no stopping you.
Thanks all that's exactly what I'm going to do, thank you thank you all!
Well done northern that will be me in 2 runs time
Yes definitely get your shoes from a good shop. I got new ones last week, I've run 3 times in them and had a personal best each time - time, distance and speed. Can't wait to see what they'll do next!
Definitely agree with the advice on getting proper footwear! At the same time, try taking smaller steps when running. A common mistake is to over stride and this puts extra stress on your shins. You should aim to have your foot land under you (there are lots of running technique clips to look at on the internet).
