Hi and welcome to the 1st Runnervesary quest wk6

Here we are at the final week of this very special Quest for me. I am finding my run out very different this last couple of weeks. I hadent realised that I run at similar times but different days so get used to a gaggle (I'm not sure what the proper terminology is) of familiar runners who mostly smile or nod. The last couple of weeks there are a lot of new runners out who don't seem as friendly. I passed six people yesterday and gave them my cheery smile to get nothing for them. They were not new runners and the only thing I can think of is we seem to have had a glut of people out training that seem to of started their marathon training plans. I'm not sure why that makes them more unfriendly. I have seen some newbies and they beam back at me. I am missing my boost as I always feel part of group when a runners smile back at me and I wonder if we talk virtually on here. Yes a lot goes through my brain as I run.

Happy running everyone.

What the quest is:-

The quest takes six weeks. You can join any time within that six weeks.

The main aim of the quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a graduate or about to graduate to join the quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the program your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Every week I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you wanted to join all you have to do is put

I would like to join the quest, or count me in and then I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end, only for those that would like to, we each put out longest run of the quest and it is then marked on a virtual run we are doing from John O Groats to Lands End.

Then it all starts again for another six week Quest.

First week of Jantastic done. 3 runs and a 1km swim. The longest run was 8km. I have also signed up for a couple of extra things as well. My other half has now just started laughing when I start a sentence "guess what I have done". He says he has no idea what lengths I am going to when I start a sentence with that. So I have my HM in May. This week I have signed up for the Marie Curie Swimathon. I am going to be doing the 2.5km distance on the 17 April. I have also signed up for the free ride of central London on 1st August which I hope to get a really long cycle ride in on traffic free london streets. I worked out that if I could do a 90km bike ride I will be doing a discombobulated 1/2 ironman. The cycle might be a stretch but I might pay to spend the day at the Olympic cycle track £6.00 and just go and do a 90km cycle when I have built up enough stamina.

Cor blimey RFC that's a lot of stuff to do along with normal life! Well done you. I'm sure you'll sail through the lot.

I managed 3 runs last week, 2 x 5K's and a 9K, so reaching the 9K is one goal achieved from the Quest. Only 1 more K to go!

I also did one gym session with weights and rowing and one pilates session.

Going to Ireland this week so hopefully will manage 3 runs again but won't have internet access so can't read all the great posts here and keep in touch! Boo hoo!

Have a great last week of this quest everyone.

I signed up for Jantastic with a pretty ambitous training programme which I hope will help me get fit enough for the planned races this year.

3 runs, 2 cycle rides and 3 swims per week in Jan. All completed, and the 3 runs coincides with my pledge to this quest.

I'm training for a HM in Blackpool on 22 Feb, hence the focus on running. As soon as that is out of the way, I shall bump the cycling up to at least 3 times a week and change the running focus from distance to speed. Maybe even reduce running to twice weekly; we shall see. I'm still learning to swim, but getting there, and expect to be ready for the "olympic distance" triathlon (1500 m swim, 45 km cycle, 10 km run) in and around Lake Windermere o the 5th July. Now if only they hadn't built all those hills around the lake!

Have a great quest week everybody :)

So it seems that all those folks who think they are fit are not really because they are socially unfit. It does sound dispiriting for you to encounter all those people who are up themselves.

My week started well and I was glad to get back to running and swimming. New shoes, new longer term goal... and sadly some more weight to lose. I'd clocked up 120 minutes running/swimming/walking but not quite sure about what has happened since... I have been bogged down report writing (full time job having a disabled child) and the extremely cold winds this weekend with a visitor meant walks were very short but they might have added up to 30 minutes of brisk walking. I did do meditations, and I did do some of a yoga class, managed about half. Decided to add one of those hip opening moves to my morning sessions and I think it it has done something disagreeable to my sacrum.

My weight is not really good - over into overweight and climbing.... but still eating up after Christmas and had a monster cooked breakfast at a café to try to warm up over the weekend. So I am trying not to panic.

Failure and small success: missed a run last week (wimped out of the Asics planned 7.5km). Tiny success: managed a PB for 5k but only by seconds and realise my old 'fast' pace at the end of c25k is now my new 'slow' jogging pace for between the intervals so not all glum news. But motivation is really low (this is temperature/weather related, I am sure) and I do need to get 3 runs a week in so a simplified quest for next time will be 3 runs a week, nothing less, even if it is just around my local 4k loop.

I've managed to stick with the MyAsics HM plan for these last six weeks. It has been tough going at times (had a bit of sulky fit about it last week!) but I've plodded on (literally in some cases). The main aim of entering the HM in March was to ensure that I continued to run over the winter, and it has certainly made me get out there. I can honestly say that I would have only been out on a few occasions if I didn't have a set goal.

Four runs logged for the team on Jantastic :)

I smile and say hello to pretty much everyone when I run past them (even cyclists smile and say hello back normally) but I do hate it when people don't respond ... no need!! I did manage to frighten the living daylights out of a postie last week; it was a case of I saw him but he didn't see me until I was running right past him, made him shout out with fright :D

Morning all... Only managed two runs this week and both 5k :-( My quest is to increase my distance but just not had any time this week- having too much fun whilst celebrating my brothers birthday!Hope to get three runs in for next time, and I'm planning a long one for the weekend.. Happy running all x

Well, everyone sounds really busy. Great stuff

I did 3 runs this week and I did my first Jillian Michaels exercise session of the New Year this morning. Training for a 10 k, well two actually, as I've entered two races - one in March and one in May. Managed to catch up on the run I missed due to ice. Everyone else was out there slipping and sliding so it had to be done .

Last week was my first week of jantastic - and I managed my 3 runs by counting today as part of last week (as you have until midnight monday to log runs, I'm claiming this is legitimate). To get back on track, this week I'm planning on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Tuesday will be short and cautious as I rarely run 2 days in a row - due to very iffy knees. But hey, thats 3 runs since I got back from my hol !

Got my 3 runs in last week. Did my 2 x 5k's with hills (well lock flight) in for a change so no speed records broken! 10k yesterday but felt a bit bleugh.

Onward and upward....

Well done everyone.

John ( jog scotland leader) has kindly offered extra help to a few of us with training for Edinburgh HM in May ( still not quite sure how I signed up for that eek eek ) So now going out 3 times a week with running group.

Last Mon was really hard mentally. Nearly all the other girls had either been injured or Ill over last month or so except for me but they all were running at same pace but I was slower and just couldn't seem to catch up . We stop quite often to regroup and john always comes back and runs in with slowest but for some reason really got to me last week. Totally irrational as they are all much younger and or have been running for years. I know I know only competition is with yourself but funny goings on in my head that run for no apparent reason. Wasn't even that far behind -30 secs?

Wed run was with same group of girls and I was easily up there with the rest of them all the way. Felt amazing

Sat saw us running 5 k great winter run edinburgh and had great time . Weather very windy but dry for first 2-3 k up Arthur seat , really steep, then little flat before going down . BUT then oh my sudden horizontal hailstones and driving wind . It felt like my face was being attacked by hundreds of needles. I can't ever remember being as sore with the cold. Sun came out just as we went over finish But brilliant experience especially being able to share with lovely folk in running group.

This week has reminded me again how much running has to do with what's going on in your head

Happy running everyone

Heehee you're right RFC, the world is full of fresh running faces at the moment. :) I'm sure all the friendly ones are members of the forum and all the unfriendly ones aren't!

I'm back to running 3times a week, thanks to Jantastic. Haven't done more than 2runs a week for ages, because I've been so careful with my knee. I won't end up doing the increased distance I'd hoped for this quest, unless, of course, you count cumulative distance! ;) Have a great week.

Hi everyone ,got my 3 runs in...just... last week, plus a very hilly 7K dog walk . Ran 6.4K on Tuesday,6K on Thursday and did the hilly walk Saturday morning.

My plan for an early run on Sunday was nearly thwarted by a really stressful time later on Saturday and I was so nearly tempted to hibernate under the duvet come Sunday morning ,feeling truly awful....however I pulled myself together and did another 6K ..up my new hilly route...and felt all the better for it.

Was quite chuffed to see my total of 18.4 for the week.

Sending Rfc a virtual smile ...and for everyone else plagued by miserable git's on their runs :)

Having had a rest, I was away in London last week and had the most marvellous run! I convinced a (non-running) friend that we should stay in the St. Paul's YHA rather than the St. Pancras YHA, so in the morning I set off at about 7:45 and ran into the sunrise towards Tower Bridge, over Tower Bridge, along the South Bank, past Southwark Cathedral, past the Globe Theatre, over the Millennium Bridge and back to the YHA. It was wonderful! I covered 4.7k, passed 65 runners, of whom the 62nd said, 'Morning!' :) , and it just felt so great.

Unfortunately, since then I have bought some new shoes which will have to go back because they are causing me back and hip pain. I got them from Sweatshop after gait analysis so there shouldn't be a problem, but after a couple of 3k runs in them they really aren't right. Back to the drawing board.

I can't believe we are at the end of another Quest - just look at the amazing things everyone is achieving. This is such a great idea - thank you for organising, Rfc, thank you for all the encouragement along the way from everyone, and happy running to all and a swift recovery to those who are on the injury couch at the moment x

I've only run once in the last week due to my shoes being worn out, although I've walked quite a lot and swum a couple of times. My new shoes are being transfered in to my local sports shop from another branch, they said today before 10 AM.... 10.13 already - where are they? Not getting desperate for a run or anything lol!

in reply to

Well, they didn't arrive and when I called the shop they said it would be Saturday :-( but they've just called me and they are in now :-) off to pick them up...

whoops wrote a post just after RfC put this up but must have lost it! Anyway, after having to stop a run half way through last week due to really sore hip and bottom I have been to osteopath twice. Feels much better and have been told to do squats several times a day. I am really weak in the glutes and thighs so actually rising from the equal with a straight back and only using my legs is really hard. Will persevere though.

Still managed 3 runs, just had to go a wee bit slower. Daughter home from the states this week so my 3 runs will be with her - already done a couple. Good fun in the snow and rain!!

Hello all. I've really been struggling last week and this week to get out due to trying to find a new routine. I've started the new job, and am moving into my new house this coming weekend. I've had to adapt this week and go for several shorter runs rather than my usual long runs. I'm hoping to get out for a long run on Sunday, to work out new routes at the new house, so wish me luck, as the weather is horrible at the moment
