First run for a while

Still recovering from a head cold - but managed to cover 5K's (3 miles) this morning. At 4.30AM, quite hot and VERY humid - feels like running in Singapore. I did a mile slow, easy warmup and another mile cooldown with a 1 mile tempo run in-between .( I am just trying to get the feel for a tempo run at a particular pace - just a little less than 7mins per K that I can "practice" ) . I must admit that it is quite difficult to hold a particular heart rate while running outside. I found it to be quite easy on the treadmill to set a speed that would eventuate in a certain heart rate - and then hold it at that for as long as I want. But outside, even on a flat path , my HR seems to "creep" ever upwards - and the only way I can bring it back down below the threshold that I am aiming for is to stop and walk - even if only for a very short time.

It sounds as if running is quite difficult in your climate at the moment. Well done on keeping it up. I can't help you with pacing as at the moment I only have one speed.

Hope you are feeling better. Running in humid conditions is not fun! How you do it I don't know!! My hat is off to you. Woke up this morning to a very cool santiago so going to hopefully enjoy a nice 7.5km run.

You're hardcore Bazza! Well done, but doesn't it kinda mess up your day running so early? I haven't run for a week, might have a go tomorrow - caught your cold over the internet...

No -- Dawn is my favourite part of the day. But even if it did, I don't have any other option at this time of the year. Sometimes its a bit hard to get out the door - and I realised yesterday that I must drink more water before these early morning runs as I am probably dehydrated a bit after sleeping.
