The runs have stopped the running

sorry for the poor title, but I'm in a bit of a quandry. I started C25K, got to the end of W2 and had to stop due to a dodgy knee. That's all sorted, so I started at the beginning again and was doing quite well. I did W5 R2 on Monday, with Tues being my rest day. Unfortunately I appear to have eaten something that disagrees with me so I haven't run since Monday. I am hoping, with everything crossed, that I might do something tomorrow, but I think that I shouldn't attempt W5 R3. Shall I just go back to W5 R1, or possibly R2, or should I go further back. I am aware that I haven't really been eating and drinking, and I don't want to make myself worse, but I have really got into this running (very slow jogging), and I am quite peeved about the tummy bug. I am enjoying the whole C25K so much more than I thought, and never believed I would be able to run for 8 minutes - I want to keep going! So, my question is, what has anyone else done when there has been a blip in the regime?

Thank you :-)

  • Why not just get out there and see how you feel? You will be in a bit of weakened state if you've been poorly and off you food. If it's too much, stop. If you feel ok, keep going. QED!

  • Why not try W5R2 again? If you find it too much, just slow down and walk as necessary. At least you'll be able to judge from this whether you are ready to progress to W5R3, or to repeat an earlier run. Try to make sure you have enough food/water to sustain you. Good luck, hope you're on the mend soon x

  • Thanks - I was thinking of doing R2 again, I really enjoyed it, I guess the only way is to try! Onwards and upwards, and all that.

  • Not a medical spurt or nuffin, but suggest you make sure you are properly hydrated before you run if you have been, ahem, running beforehand.

Think I would try your W5 R2 again and pick up from there.

Good luck and if you feel an urge to go mid-run-runs, keep the clock going: you might just score a PB on the way to the lavvy (sorry, I know, best left unsaid, etc) :D

  • Lol, thanks for that Slookie! I am itching to get back out there, fingers crossed for tomorrow.

  • Good luck for tomorrow if you can't eat much at least keep hydrated

  • I would say give Week 2 ago only if you feel much better and have managed to keep hold of some food and more importantly water. I sense your eagerness and you do get into it and it is rather annoying when something gets in your way but if you need to take one or two more days rest, it always better to run when your feeling better.

  • You haven't been 'off' for very long. I would do R2 to see how you go but you shouldn't really need to go backwards after only having missed 1 run. Hope you feel better soon.

  • thank you everyone - I love the support that people are so happy to give. R2 here I come...

  • Hurray, I've done it. Nailed R2 with a sort of sprint at the end. Feel a bit queer now tho! Thanks for the advice everyone!
