Running when ill. To do or not to do?, that is the question.

I want to go running but not feeling 100%. Sore throat, sticky eyes and general achiness. But not been for a run since last Thursday! (25th Sept) Feeling lazy and fat :(

In that case, perhaps we should send someone round to tie you to the sofa and administer hot blackcurrant if you can't be trusted to take things gently ;-) Persons of my acquaintance have died from viral cardiomyopathies getting caught out running with a bug.

internet wisdom says if symptoms are all above the neck than its OK, but not if not. You mention general achiness, so personally, I wouldn't.

No don't do it... Get the rest and give your body time. I had just over a week off with ulcerated throat and flu. Although my first run back was hard I could still run, I just had to take it easy and work extra hard ;-)

I know you are having a wee tantrum there - and we runners (get me!!) know EXACTLY how you feel, but I think a brisk walk in the beautiful sunshine would be much better for you than a run. If you run and make yourself feel worse, you'll be laid up for longer. There. Suck on that, Missus!

LOL useorloseit! You are so right! We runners hate being ill or injured! All my toys are out the pram, spat my dummy out and currently holding my breath until I get my own way! ;)

If my sister was here, I would blame it on her too! ;)

I would run! If I felt sticky-eyed and fat I would deffo get out there. You will still have a cold if you stay in! That's my take on it any road. I would take a hankie!

You can treat yourself to hot lemon when you get back. If you feel any worse for it you can blame me

Stay lazy and fat until you're better! In my humble, putting your lungs under heavy stress running whilst you're body is fighting off a virus is not a good idea. Walking (as per GoogleMe says) is a good idea.

I agree with aj, if just a cold and runny nose go for it but if achy, temp raised or muscle aches just rest, you'll get better quicker.
