Starting this today after not doing much since I had my last back op in Jan 2014. I used to be a regular at the gym and I've done 3 Great North Run the last on was in 2011 running for diabetes after losing my 20 yr old daughter in 2010 that was the start of me having two disectomy which has left me with a weak back. I would love to do the Great North Run 2015 so here's hoping !

Wow, look at you coming back to it after all of that. I had never run before I started 9 weeks ago, just graduated last week, if I can do it you certainly can make a comeback! Let us know how you get on, don't be too hard on yourself too soon, it will take a while to build up again & you don't want to crash & burn early. Slow & steady wins the race. Good luck! X

Welcome to this wacky site full of mad but kind and very supportive members who will gladly encourage you along the way on this journey!

Well done for starting - the hardest bit is behind you now (getting off the couch). Just a little tip: start all your runs slow and steady, listen to your body, don't worry about speed/distance just yet and you will very soon start to enjoy the many benefits of keeping active.

Keep looking in here, have a laugh at the daft ones, and good luck to you for the journey.

HAPPY RUNNING! :) :) :)

Hopefully it will be a great way to get you back to your running - 3 GNRs is impressive. I am so sorry to hear you lost your daughter.

Good luck with the running - there will be lots of encouragement and support for you when you need it :0) x

Yorkie5 what a desperately difficult time that you've had. I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter.

Doing C25k gives you a real focus that many find extraordinarily positive. I'm sure you will too.

Do you have to do exercises to keep your back mobile? If so, I would try and be vigilant about doing them to protect yourself from injury. Make sure you have a good pair of trainers and I would try and run somewhere with a fairly even surface to avoid jarring your back.

Good luck and let us know how you get on!
