Who knew..

.. that my new found ability to run would end up being a life saver - a slight over exageration! And that as an adult there might be an actual real requirement to vault outside of the gym.

A slightly off topic post, but quite a funny story.

Yesterday me and my husband went for a walk in the East Harptree area of the Mendips. Despite the fact the sun never actually appeared, we had a great walk. Until this one particular field.. we could see some disinterested looking cows at the bottom of this field and we had to walk along the top to the stile on the other side. Being a bit anxious about the cows I set off walking at quite a pace, in front of my husband.

Moments later Mark is running past me shouting "run!". I looked behind me and the cows were running up the field towards us!! After swearing slightly I ran as fast as I could - which was tricky in long wet grass. A quick backwards glance showed the cows were getting closer (obviously more used to running in long wet grass!). I finally reached the stile - hubby safely over the other side by this time - chucked my stick over and then actual proper vaulted over it!

My legs were like jelly. After a few moments regaining our composure, we walked down the next field to the pub we had in mind - only to find it was closed!! So we stopped off at the great Ring-O-Bells in Compton Martin - always open :).

Today I went for a run and encountered nothing more scary than some dogs and children (although found the enticing smell of cooked brekkie and fresh coffee a bit much - how dare they!).

The photo (if it uploads) isn't of the cows from yesterday, but another bunch which stalked us up a neighbouring field during a walk earlier in the year. I'm sure they're mocking me!

Hope you've all had a great weekend, and hope all runners in the Bristol HM did well.

Happy running everyone :) xx

Oh this running has its uses! That's a bit scary though, I love cows but am always a bit wary of them, you hear some nasty stories sometimes. Glad all worked out well, sounds like you needed a drink after that x :-D

I share your dislike of cows, if they're not staring at you they're chasing you! Luckily for me it was a race steward the last one went after last week at my 5k run :S

Oh, I have heard some right tales about stampeding cows, they must think theyre rhinosceroses or summat :-)

Haha , I had to laugh at your hubby legging it , glad your C25k skills proved useful :-) xxx

Scary! Bet you won't go that route again!

Cows definitely seem to have acquired attitude (who can blame them?) We did a longer than expected walk last week despite being late for school pick-up. Didn't fancy a field with cows and calves when we had a dog with us.

Oh how scary! I hate walking past fields of cows and dogs off the leash in farms. You just don't know how they will react. Well done on the gym manoeuvres though :D Being fitter has so many advantages!

Were they bullocks rather than cows? Had a similar incident with a herd of bullocks - the crazy things came thundering over the hill at about 30mph. We had to leg it over a fence. Terrifying!

i had to do this at work (i do field work - which usually doesnt mean actual fields except this one job) but if the cows have calves (even if the calfs are almost full grown) they will charge at you to protect their young, otherwise mostly they run towards u then manage to stop about 5m away - scary but safe!

another plus of running - is if there is a zombie apocalypse u will outrun those zombies lol or the zombie cows
