Hi all!
First apologies for not posting for a while. I have been running but not particularly fast or long so along with being busy I didn't have the motivation to post.
Anyway I had a good parkrun this morning. I am aiming to get back to my PB time of 21:45 by the end of the year by improving my 5km time by at least 10 seconds per week. Last week I ran in 23:17 so my aim today was to run within 23 minutes.
I paced myself well and at the half way point I was at 11:29 so exactly where I wanted. I was running alongside a guy and whenever he sped up a bit I tried to keep up with him and when he slowed I maintained my pace and he then pulled away a bit. So we were keeping each other going but he was a few meters ahead of me the whole way along.
We got to the 250 meter finishing straight and a quick glance at my watch showed that I had to finish it within a minute to match my goal. To be honest I didn't think I had it in me because the run had been a bit difficult but I decided to go for it. I closed in to the other guy very quickly and he sped up to keep up with me however at the 100 meter mark I increased my pace and he wasn't able to keep up. At this stage I was closing up to someone else but he noticed me coming and sped off. When I finished I glanced at my watch and saw that I had finished in sub 23 minutes so was very happy.
I have been getting tight calves again so have been careful not to overdo it and have been using the foam roller too. I will start to see a physio at work soon so hopefully that will help too.
I am moving in the right direction so hopefully the times keep tumbling! See the link below for today's run:
