Aussie here reporting in after a lovely 5K trial run in the shiny new "Mizuno Wave 10 Inspire" (love marketing people) shoes to see how these old knees stood up...
I pushed out 5K in just under 32 minutes so was a fair pace on the flat and mainly asphalt surfaces. I did around 10 minutes of warm up pre-run, strapped on the knee strap and about 10 minutes of cool down as well...
When I got back in I put a bit of ice on my knee, but NOT because it was sore - more out of "just in case"... I got back with my knees no more painful than when I left... just out of a nice hot shower now and I got down the stairs without any trouble...
Fingers crossed folks - I'll be darned if them new shoes might just be helping straight out of the box... Let's hope my legs stay nice and pain free today and tomorrow...
It was also nice to just push out a cheeky 5K to remind myself I can do it...
I have a very very dodgy right knee, 2 operations on it, and had problems running on it, I then changed trainers for some Mizuno Wave creation 14W andhaven't looked back since. NO pain what so ever and that counts pavement running, so happy with that
No pain = a good day! How's your B210K coming along? Hadn't heard from you for a while and I know you were having some struggles in the heat but I hope it's all going well!
Well got use to going out early but it's the oral entrance competions for the university where I work in 8 days I have had 170 candidates and I am still teaching so finding it hard to get out at the moment only been managing 2 runs a week
Thanks Paul - the Cumulus neutral shoe just weren't right for me it would seem... Sweatshop sorted me out (like they did with you I think).... so far so good... pain free running is good running!
Exactly. Yes, Sweatshop sorted me and I ended up with the Cumulus 15's. They seemed a little wider which suited my feet better than the others I tried.
Great news, Aussie. Glad to hear your knees coped okay with the run; hopefully the rest will have done them the world of good. The run sounds nice too. Running 'just' a 5K is really enjoyable; I still do one a week as a speedrun.
I'm into preemptive ice as well; I always have cold baths after a run, and stick ice packs on the ankle, just in case.
Your new shoes look great by the way. Let's hope they sort out your knee issues!
Thanks M_Y - they may not make me FLY like you, but they are awfully comfortable... looking forward to getting out again in less than 48 hours now... New routes laid out, new things to see, new times to beat...
I was worried for a while (and still am really) that I was "messing with my plan" and that the whole idea of the 10K in 4 weeks was just a joke... I think I've decided I'm just going to "darn well do the race" anyway... If I have to walk - I'll walk... If I finish last, I finished... I got a bit set back by the injury couch but I suspect it won't affect my ability to finish a 10K... I've done 8K already after all!
Oh that sounds great! I sure hope the shoes continue to do the trick - being able to move without pains after a run must be an absolutely wonderful feeling!
