A bad run, a bad week...

I've recently moved & after a stressful week & much anticipation I went along to a new Parkrun course. I started too quickly (bad habit of mine), ended up winding myself, had to stop many times along with getting a stitch so ended up walking quite a bit of it. A lot of the course is on the grass so a little unsure of the direct route (not a huge fan of grass - irrational fear of stepping into doggie muck!). I was hoping to get a sub 30 one day but definitely not on that run - over six minutes worse than my last Parkrun! Admittedly it was a different course, not flat like my last course - this apparently is a "slow" course according to the wonderful volunteers who were fantastic in cheering me on as I felt like pulling out after 1km.

So today thought I will get a bit of practise with the unlevel ground of the park before the next park run. Brilliant sunshine, lovely day for a run in the park and as I was running along a path I managed to trip over a little bump, went flying before hitting the ground - hard! In the process I stuck out my right hand which took a lot of the impact along with my chin which is now bruised & swollen and as for eating or moving my jaw - ouch! Other casualties are my lovely new running top ( now torn), my earphones (working but plastic bit torn) & I've also a lovely bruise developing on my knee. So despite the sun is shining - it doesn't feel like its shining on me :( I ended up sobbing with big fat tears whilst I tried to pick myself up (literally as was feeling achy & stiff)

What a difference a week makes, this time last week I was feeling all buoyed up, asking for my graduation badge, looking for races to challenge myself but now my confidence has taken a hit & I'm feeling a bit rubbish :(

I guess you can have two consecutive bad runs though I don't want to make it a hat trick! How can I run for ages one day & then the next struggle to run 1km? Has anyone else had those days?

Oh CrazyKitty how horrible for you - a difficult Parkrun and then a nightmare run in the park. I wouldn't worry about a hat trick of bad runs at the moment, just concentrate on getting over your fall. As well as your bumps and bruises you're going to feel really shaken up. Be kind to yourself and take some time to recover both your confidence and from your injuries. I prescribe lots of self-administered TLC for the next week -Trust me, I'm an ancient mum. Take care Sweetie xx

I was feeling a little deflated after the Parkrun as was hoping to improve my time but realistically it's a different course (my word is tougher but some super fast people got sub 20 so I can't make excuses!) felt rubbish as it was a 6 minute difference. I can only get better - fingers crossed! This Kitty Kat will lick her wounds today & feel a little self indulgent but tomorrow will be another day! X

Poor you. The fall must have really shaken you up. You'll probably feel a bit sore and stiff tomorrow but get some rest and you'll be fine in a few days. Your next run will be great. Sending you soothing vibes.....

Thank you. The fall did surprisingly shock me hence the tears! I will however blame the bump that tripped me! Never mind a few days, I'm generally sore quite soon after my run (age/fitness!) I will rest up & lace up my trainers though I wasn't feeling the love with running earlier. Keep sending those soothing vibes! X

I know I'm being silly & it's easy to forget how far one has come & hopefully it will become a distant memory. I guess the good buzz I've had from running has brought me down a peg or two. X

Your not being silly , I'd be like you , it's only natural

Ohhhh poor you! What a nightmare. I'm not surprised at you bursting into tears after a tumble like that. That must have really hurt like hell too.

But get this ; There is no such thing as a bad run, but a good run makes you feel great. Each run we do is part of the journey on the way to the next GREAT one!

Rockette is right. Take a few days off and reset your "RUN-OMETER" so to speak. You'll bounce back quickly if you take this advice. And congratulations on the move! That in itself is stressful, so pour yourself a campari on ice with a slice of orange and chill out for a bit. You deserve it!

I love your spin re bad run / good run! I guess I had a few good runs before & it kinda went to pot. Oh and it really did hurt especially the huge swollen bruised chin I have! I'm terribly embarrassed to go out in daylight at the moment.

Ouch crazy kitty, that sounds painful ! Something like that is bound to shatter your confidence, its natural. Have a couple of days of TLC , and I hope you feel better soon, take care :-) xxx

I was feeling a bit rubbish the last days & feeling sorry for myself but I know rest is important as I'd be likely to do more mischief if I went out too soon. I will go for a short run before the end of the week to gain a bit of confidence. Hope you're enjoying the C25K journey!

Well you are doing better than me ! When I set off for my second Parkrun, aiming to run it without any walking (which I had done the first time) I found it incredibly difficult and horrible and gave up and went home at 4.25k. I guess it just happens that way some times. Look after yourself for abit and then get back out there !

Well the fact you ran your first one shows you can do it! On my first one I had a stitch so ended up running / walking but the time was still 2 minutes faster than last Sat! It was a more difficult course which I can accept but there were many times round the course when I thought of bailing out - only problem was Mr Kitty had got up early to cheer me on! You're right, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! Are you doing the Parkrun this Sat? If so, let me know how it goes - I'm aiming to get back & I hope to beat my appalling time - without falling over!

I know there's not meant to be such thing as a bad run but I think taking a tumble like that might just blow that theory out of the water! I hope you are OK and not too bruised. I wouldn't worry about the parkrun, just put it down to experience as one of those things and move on - the bottom line is that you ran it and didn't give up! But what a bummer about breaking your headphones etc - that would seriously p1$$ me off. Take care of yourself! x

I think I need a bit of your Turbo power! Chin is incredibly bruised, have been trying to cover it with makeup but not succeeding very well so keeping head down whilst out in public. Headphones are still working, thank god (but have a cheap spare pair for emergencies - a day without music - unthinkable!) unhappy about running top - blast! I guess I literally hit the ground running! I've signed up to FB, how do I find you?

Gawd you poor thing. At least you didn't chip any teeth, that would have been just too much! The facebook group is called "C25kers on Facebook", I think if you search for that exact phrase it will come up (it has 399 members already) - then you just request to join it and you'll be added. Perhaps you'll be no.400!

Thanks for the virtual hug, much appreciated. Yes it did hurt like hell as I'm still feeling sore. In the moments that you're falling in slow motion, don't you wish it wasn't happening! I will be up & about before long.
