Hi Sophloc, I think the key is slow and steady.....don't go off fast, it's just a gentle jog. It's about building strength and stamina. Trust in Laura, the running plan is really very well done and slowly progresses you through to 30 minutes. Also use this forum......there are tonnes of people on here who are more than happy to help you out, I've found it a fantastic source of information and support.

So happy running.......and let us know how it goes.

Go somewhere nice if you can - parks, woods, footpaths. Looking around, hearing birds and seeing things you didn't notice before, even if it's just other people's gardens, house fronts, dog walkers, it keeps your mind off thinking "when can I walk again"?

Definitely slow and steady, and if it starts to feel tough, just go even slower.

Just a thought, but is your partner a similar height and level of fitness to you? I ask because my OH is much taller and was much fitter than me when I first started running. No way could we have run together because his stride length and rhythm are completely different to mine. I would have ended up trying to run too fast to keep up and then getting tired out and demoralised. Of course this may not be the same for you. Good luck with your run, this programme is brilliant.

I would like to echo all that has been said! I think that you must have faith in the course and take one run at a time; don't shock yourself by looking ahead! You will be able to do it! I didn't think I could, but I did! Well done for getting started, and how marvellous that you have a supportive partner to keep you going! Good luck, and please let us know how you're getting on. We're all a bit mad on this forum... well, if truth be told, I'm normal, but the others are a bit loopy ;) No seriously, everyone here is lovely and SO supportive... my God, they are still babysitting me even now! :)

Plenty of good advice above - I would just add that decent shoes are important and it's also essential to stretch out after the runs to help prevent stiffness.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Hi SophLoch, good advice from others above. I will add: try not to stride when you are jogging; take small steps. If you want to run faster, take quicker steps but don't extend your stride. If the front of your shins start to ache, slow down and shorten your stride. Try and run quietly with a 'stealthy' style. At first, land on your heel or midsole.

Very best wishes.

Hey guys, run went really well. I wanted to give up at one point but my partner was spring me on. I was amazed I finished as the last 60 secs was up hill. Looking forward to the next run.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys. Xx
