Started running Sept 2013 just so I could do 1 ml childrens cancer run with 3 yr old grandson Brody. Didn't get off to best start as my tummy started playing silly bu**ers yesterday and Brody is in middle of course of Grumpy medicine (steroids) Anyway sun was shining and got to start still not sure if the wee man was going to do it or not They started the countdown -he started to smile and we were off Yea!! His 5yr old sister Jessie super speedy so didn't see her after about 30 secs. I found the pace really hard as I take wee while to get going but 1/2way round got couple of mins breather as Brody suddenly stopped and said his legs couldn't work But his dad showed him how to jump in huge puddles and soak his grandma Rona . He thought that was funniest thing and off we went again via every muddy puddle he could find When we saw the finish he let go of us and SPRINTED to end . Really emotional but just fabulous. Then went off by myself and did the family 5mile run I have never ever seen mud like it but absolutely LOVED it Got my first ever medal and training tips from Brody so I can run as fast as him next time Me and the grandchildren jumped in really deep puddles all way back to the car - well you are only young once!

Oh, I am so pleased you enjoyed the day. What a wonderful achievement and you got to jump in puddles as well. You must be so proud, not just of your grandson but the other family members who went with your and, of course, yourself - really well done. Enjoy the wonderful afterglow you must be feeling at the moment. My very best wishes to you and your lovely running buddies. Beautiful picture by the way.

I've heard pics are difficult to edit once posted. Why not put up another one on a new post - sure we wouldn't mind. Cheers.

Yay - good for you! I saw the mud on the local news last night and have to say it was the worst I have ever seen it (we ran it 4 times when son was little), must have been tough going but I'm glad you all had fun. :-)

What a wonderful post! Congratulations on your first ever medal and I hope you take notice of Brody as your trainer! Sounds like he's got his priorities right - jumping in all the puddles! There'll be many more happy runs with them! Tell him we are all proud of him!

Glad to hear you all had such a lovely day FF! You are such an inspiration not just to your beautiful grandchildren but to all of us here on HU! What's your next running goal?

Well Hennith I just happened to have signed up to edinburgh marathon festival in 2 weeks !

I love saying that just to see peoples faces Don't panic I am only doing the 5k although first part that is straight up Arthur Seat - a volcano in middle of Edinburgh . Good thing is once you get up there is flat bit and then all downhill. Quite excited as have got number with chip for time. so guessing I will be nervous as so many people and serious runners

What a lovely post to read, really uplifting. So glad you all enjoyed your day. Sounds like you may have a slave driver there.

It's almost surreal having serious running conversations with a 3yr old waletta . He keeps telling me I have to practise more if I want to get faster -- out of the mouths of babes!

I love the idea that 3 yr olds have no concept of age. You are just the same age as him & a very good playmate to boot. The little boy living next door to my uncle (in his 80s at the time) used to knock & ask my Aunty Kath if Cliff was coming out to play. They are so special aren't they & never cease to be so!
