Park Runs?

I notice a lot of talk about park runs on here. Is that a 5k race you do after you graduate? Or the next training programme? I don't know where to look to find out!

Google ParkRun

It's a national run in a local park.

Usually on a Saturday morning .....free of charge.

It's a 5k course for anyone who thinks they are capable of running it.

I'm giving myself a few more weeks on c25k (I'm in wk2) and then I'm going to give my local one in High Wycombe a go!

Oh, thanks. I didn't find it when I googled but I'm a bit of a noob according to my son, so I'll try again! Hehe

I found one near me, but I'm not half way through c2k yet so I'll wait until I think I can manage it. Thanks for the link!

i started doing park run very early on on the programme and just walk/ran it. Its only in the last 3 weeks that I have managed to run the whole thing. If you look at the results of your local one, you can see how fast the slowest person is there, and if it isnt a fast run, then you wont feel at all out of place going along. I really like mine.

Yes me too. I just incorporated the third run of the week into Parkrun ( from week 2 onwards) - and simply did what I had done at home for the two previous runs of the week. I even did the 5 minute warm up/cool down walks as part of the Parkrun 5ks. I generally always finished up short of the 5 ks, so I just did whatever I felt like to get across the 5K line. My first Parkrun doing this got me across the line in 42 minutes -- my PB now is 35 minutes.

That sounds like a good way of doing it, I'm tempted to give it a go next week!

Everybody should try a Parkrun at some stage. Runners come in all sizes, shapes, ages and abilities to celebrate the beginning of the weekend with a 5k run (or run/walk) in a park somewhere near you (maybe). It is free and inspirational and hugely supportive of new runners. Keep running, keep smiling.

I'm smiling and running!

For me, it just adds an extra dimension to my running interest. I think that any exercise regime can become a bit boring at times -- it is easy to "fall off the wagon". -- so anything that keeps you at it is good.
