Week 8 behind me. 24 down 3 to go.

Well, off I went this morning to do the last run of week 8. The run itself was uneventful - I was a bit tired so taking much smaller steps and a lot more slowly than usual. I mainly wanted to get this week behind me so I can move on to my final week of C25K.

The park was quite busy although nothing to really get in my way until the last 5 minutes of the running part. Some old ladies approached me and one started to ask me for directions. I pointed to my ears and called "Sorry, I can't stop as have someone talking to me in the headphones". The lady looked a bit taken aback but it should have been obvious that I was busy with something as I was jogging when she saw me and the headphones are not exactly invisible. I didn't feel the slightest bit guilty for not stopping to give her directions, not least because there were several dog walkers and families very close by whom she could have asked. Also the park visitor's centre was a mere 400 yards away and she could have got a free map of the park in there. Oh no, it's the usual "Let's ask a busy person". I completed my run at any rate - come too far to unnecessarily consider others at this stage.

Having arrived back home I saw a chap who has his boat on the same pontoon as us and said Hello to him. I then got a lecture about running being the worst thing I could do, it would damage all my joints etc.,and that it would be okay for me to walk. By this time I was taking a walk - away from him and I shut the pontoon gate with quite a clang. It's none of his business and I don't take kindly to being given unsolicited 'advice' or being told what someone thinks I am 'allowed' to do. I cheered myself up by remembering that I'd been going to ask him to have dinner with us tomorrow (baked gammon with honey mustard glaze) and that he'd just talked himself out of being invited. Jolly good, all the more lovely home baked gammon for us.

Well, I shall have a nice rest and decide on Monday morning whether to start W9 then or wait until Tuesday thus giving me the two rest days prior to starting a new week.

Ha ha I had a similar kind of run on Thursday on my warm up walk down to our park I saw a friend with her dog , I didn't want to stop so I just power walked by her very dramatic & pointed to my head phones & said sorry can't stop , then as I was doing the run bit in the park shortly after a oldish man was walking towards me with 2 walking sticks & I could just hear him over the music he was lifting his sticks up & shouting , you should pack that game in that's why I walk with these running knackered my knees up , I just gave him a sympathetic look , bless him & jogged on by . Why oh why do people feel the need to tell us horror stories about running . I get it at work , at home & now off complete strangers in the park ! Any way happy running .

I know, it's a real pain why any of these people think it's any of their business in the first place. If someone fell in the marina where I live, for example, they wouldn't like it if I strolled casually to fetch a life belt on the basis "I don't want to risk damaging my knees". I sometimes think it is a pity that they don't consider damage to their voices for using them unnecessarily! Anyway, I just make sure they know that I don't appreciate busybodies and tend to avoid them. Happy running.

I find that the only people who think running is bad for you is people who don't and have never run! Good luck for week 9 and look forward to seeing that graduate badge by your name!

Hi Fitmo, how dare that guy lecture you ...none of his business! Bloomin cheek! Well, as you say, he's not invited now....I'd be up for honey glazed gammon though....!

So glad you mentioned the possibility of having an extra rest day. That's exactly what I'm doing ...ran on Friday and now having a second rest day so I can start on Monday with the 2nd run of WK9 and hopefully, go for THE BIG ONE on Wednesday....

Hi again, Honey/mustard glazed gammon - I use the Tesco Everyday Value gammon joints. Boil for about 2 hours until just tender then remove and allow to cool slightly. When just cool enough to handle carefully remove the rind (but not the fat) with a knife. Score the fat into a diamond pattern and push a clove into each diamond. Spread with a 50/50 mixture of honey and mustard (I use wholegrain mustard coz it looks better) and pop into a fairly hot oven until the glaze is sizzling and nicely brown (about 30 - 40 minutes). Serve with veg and spuds of your choice. Sending you a couple of 'virtual' slices!

I should start the week's runs on a Monday after having an entire weekend off. However, last week, due to a cold and the fact that I was going out on the Wednesday for the day, I did Tue, Thur, Sat runs. I'm not convinced that I'd feel happy starting a new week, especially the final week, after only one rest day so it might be a case of putting it off until Tuesday again this week just to keep that extra rest day in place. I'll see how I feel tomorrow. Good luck with your last two runs - I'm chasing your tail though. Best wishes.
