the elusive 30min 5k
Well done, you are only a hair's breadth away now. I haven't graduated yet so can't tell you what the speed podcasts are like - I have that pleasure yet to come. Good luck and best wishes.
The trick is not to obsess about breaking 30 minutes, but to concentrate on doing regular runs and every now and again push yourself a little. The way to run faster, as someone once told me, is to try to run faster! Watch other peoples technique too and copy the ones that seem to make it look easy - they're probably the most efficient. My first ever 5k took more than 36 minutes, but over time it gradually came down to the point where I am now disappointed if I don't beat 30 minutes, but that has taken me 7 months! Sometimes it's better just to run and clock up the mileage. As Laura said, many run is better than no run. It all adds up.
It is brilliant!! When I graduated I wasn't concerned about speed just distance covered. That can a lot out of your day and not aways possible to find an hour and 1/2 etc. That's were the speed one comes in handy. It is short and hard but after a few times of doing it you will have enough energy to finish the run off to a nice 5k. Surprising how much stronger and faster you feel in a short space of time. Great to listen too for a parkrun Laura's pacing and encouragement in your ear is a fantastic help. Good luck!
My "problem" is this -- I always finish my 5K runs at Parkrun strongly - with a good sprint. BUT -- at the 2.5 Klm mark, I don't fell all that confident of being strong at the end, so I hold back a little, wanting to finish. I have dropped from 42 minutes to just a few seconds over 35 minutes at this stage - but pacing myself correctly is my weakness. I guess it will all come in time
ive not done a park run yet as i like 10k i think at my age im made for distance and pace is very important but its more important to listen to your body on that day. i find each run different and thats what i find hard to judge i can feel great but have a bad run and other times not feel like it and run a pb! funny thing this running malarky.
