Went and did the brighton marathon 10k race today. What a great day. This is my first race since starting this running malarkey. I so enjoyed it. The atmosphere was amazing and the support from the crowd and all the volunteers was amazing too.
So we were probably the last ones starting as had to queue for loos for ages. So was feeling a little worried that we would finish last too. So running along the streets of brighton and we starting catching up with the rest of the 10kers and then overtaking too. Managed to go out a little fast to start off with but managed to mantain it and even managed a pb 5k 33.29 mins. Which I am elated about. So had to do a couple of little walk breaks and water. So the last 2/3k managed to run steadily with a great sprint finish which I dont know where that came from but I did it. So my first 10k done 1.09 mins. Well pleased with that. Even got a pb 6.54 average k. So all in all today was such a great day. Such a buzz and so proud of myself. I only started running about 7 months ago.
So what to do next. I think another 10k race is on the cards, but where and when is the question?
Happy running all. I am taking a couple of days off now, then back to it to break my new trainers in I got for mothers day xx

Brill news Snats! You must be chuffed to bits with it all. Reading other people's experiences of such events makes me want to try a park run or something.
Oh well done! That's a good time. I have my first 10k race at the beginning of June and if I can get that sort of time I will be really happy. Good luck with the next one!
Well done you! Sounds like you had a great time and nothing like the support of fellow runners to increase your pb! Wishing you all the best for many 10ks to come
Well done! I did my first race in March and just loved it were you chip timed? I was so it didn't matter that I started near the back and I so like passing people
Well done on your first race. You must be well pleased. Best wishes.
Sounds like you had a brilliant time. Well impressed with you going for a 10k as your first race, there will be no stopping you now. Enjoy your wee rest and hope your new trainers are comfy!
Thank you all for your kind words. I am sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I have now entered my next 10k on 1st June. So looking forward to it and doing it without walking would be so amazing. I manged 8k on monday without walking so I must be getting fitter. Thanks again x
