Getting cold post run
Hi all I have completed W4R1 and getting increasingly cold following runs... I immediately put layers on and have a drink but it's taking about 90 mins to properly get warm... Anyone else had this?
Yes. It's your body temperature returning to normal after exercise. My body is warm to start off with then starts to feel cold cos of the sweat on layers. A nice warm shower does the trick for me. They say you should have a snack within 20mins. Cup of tea and of course a snack or my brekkie.
Em, I have to shower post-run before I feel warm. Guess it's just the sweatiness!!
This happens to me on run days. I'm not sure why but another running friend has just suggested that fuelling up after the run with protein will help. I haven't tried it yet but will do next time I go out. Someone else on here might have ideas though - fingers crossed! Happy running - hope you're enjoying the programme
I was same especially cold in small of my back I read you should take off top ASAP so if I have driven to run I just whip of top and put on fleece over underwear ( removing bras in car just step too far ) and then put on Jacket I ddont think i realasised how sweaty i was because with wicking tops you dont feel wet . I always have something to eat right away I even wrap up bit toast and in eat in car before driving home Hot drink and shower and am ok I used to find I phaffed about when I got home but now I know clothes off and straight to shower
I get this too
Thanks peeps I will try these.. :))
Hi Doglets, this is a really common problem on this forum and raised in many a post including one of mine so you're not alone. The diff between your core and body temp is the prob but there's little to do about it. I echo the above, a shower, hot drink and a little snack, woolly socks and a duvet. I found that it got better a bit over time as I got fitter too, perhaps because my internal thermostat was becoming more efficient x
I used to get cold in the small of my back too. I don't now though so I agree with P1glet that our bodies adjust. You could put the heating on so the house is toasty when you get back and then have a warm bath or shower. Hot drink first!
I had this problem at your stage of the programme and felt uncomfortably cold for the rest of the day after running. What helped me to stop it is to put on a light windproof jacket as soon as I stop the session and before I do my cool-down walk home. And eat breakfast as soon as possible afterwards!
You have my sympathy, it is not a pleasant feeling. Hope this helps.
I have found that a quick(15min) yoga routine helps me moderate my post run chills. There is something about stretching everything out that moves my temp back to normal. It also keeps me more limber than just the warm down alone.
finished my last run Week 9 run 3 last Thursday and promptly came down with the worst cold I’ve had for years...
