husband has offered to take me to our favourite chinese buffet on friday, but only on the condition that i run 4.7 miles with him to get there! i have found the program pretty good so far, have managed to complete each week without having to redo any runs, and while hasn't been easy i do feel that i could probably go a little bit further. i am now on week 7 run 2 and loving every second do you think i should take a gamble?!

Hmmmm that's cruel, I like to be fresh and dressed nicely for a meal. Tell him you'll run back from there the following day and he can drop you off.;)

Personally that would be have been too much of a jump for me. Mind you I have been at this for 6 months and still not done 4.7 miles so not sure if my suggestions are worth listening too :)

I also agree with oldgirl about arriving 'fresh'. Once I run for over half an hour the sweat starts dripping from my hair... not a pretty sight at the best of times but def not good for being out for a meal.

But given you are asking I get the feeling you might just be up for taking him on...

I'd say a circular route, home, shower, then drive there. I'm like OG and Lizzie, would not want to arrive covered in sweat. Also I find running a bit of an appetite suppressor (don't particularly feel like eating much after a long run) so wouldn't be able to do a buffet justice if I ran there!

That's quite a big jump up distance wise, it's 7.5km. While not wishing to be a spoil sport as it sounds as though you might be up for it, you're only meant to increase your distance by 10% each week or you increase the risk of injury. How far are you covering on your week 7 runs? I felt all enthusiastic 1 week after registration and went from doing 6K regularly to a 9K run then couldn't run for over 2 weeks because I woke up the next day with really bad pain in my foot - I'd damaged the tendons. If you do it take it easy or consider Beads suggestion. Why not go for your run together then send him out for a takeaway while you're having a nice long shower? ;-)

Hmmm... I think I'd go on my own as a graduation treat in a couple of weeks time instead and he could come if he wanted....

If you're feeling strong, confident, and ready to push yourself a bit further, I say go for it and take that gamble.
