I hadn't thought about how I run before, but listened to Laura's tips & tried the heel first technique, it felt awkward so didn't do it for every run, however last night & today my left ankle has been very painful. I'm a bit worried about going out tomorrow. Any advise?

Done R1W2 yesterday & tried Laura's tip of running heel 1st now I'm in pain!

I did a similar thing that week too! Personally heel first doesn't suit me, I found out it maybe because I have minimalist shoes, but I didn't run like that when I was younger either. I prefer a mid-foot strike. There are some discussions online so you could look around and decide what you feel is best for you. There are also plenty of simple exercises to alleviate pain and strengthen shins, calves & achilles, do be careful if you're sore -push on now and you may regret it laterr

I think this is the one piece of advice from Laura that is best ignored. If you were running with a mid foot strike before, then stick with it.
The advice from Laura on heel strike and breathing both left me confused and struggling, when I had been doing fine. So after a brief attempt I ignored it.

When you run without thinking about it, doing what comes naturally, I don't think many of us natural heel strikers

I found the breathing and the heel striking confusing and put me off my runs - so Im sorry Laura - I ignored you!!
I found the best way for me when I started was just to let it all come natural. breathing sorted itself out and the footwork.
I'll worry more about technique when I book my first half marathon......
Hope helps.

Thanks for the replies, I'm still sore today in fact it feels worse, so decided not to do my run today, I have done 30 mins on the exercise bike to try & keep up fitness. (What fitness! Lol) and my ankle felt fine doing that, I will see how it feels at the weekend & try the run again, prob doesn't help I'm on my feet all day at work. Oh well no rest for the wicked, I'll get there in the end. Thanks again
