"Strength grows in the moments when you think you can't go on , but you keep going anyway."

This quotation probably sums up the most important thing that i have found out about myself, since starting to run.

There have been some super posts, from folk on here, about the reasons, why we run, and indeed sometimes, why we don't run. Posts too, with references to how we feel on different runs .

There are, simply loads of links from the web, I could have posted, all about what other people have found out about themselves

on the running journey.

But... I am just wondering, what is the most important thing YOU have learnt about yourself, since starting to run.?

That I am capable of much more than I thought, and that I can actually voluntarily get out of bed early on a weekend morning to go for a run!

I've learnt that when I want to quit, I can talk my mind around most of the time ! That I am mentally stronger than ever before is a big acheivement for  me!!😊

You do write some lovely, thought-provoking posts!

I think, as much as anything, I'm learning to believe in myself. I'm slimmer and fitter than I've been for at least 20 years, and with that my self confidence is slowly growing. I have a lot more courage to stand up for myself - I've spent most of my life meekly fitting in with everybody else, to the extent that I pretty much had no idea what I actually liked and disliked - and I'm much less concerned with what other people think. Today, for example, I did my run at a time when the village was very busy; the old me would probably have walked or taken the car to the rec so I was less conspicuous. Even two weeks ago I was wearing a big baggy hoodie. But today I wore jogging bottoms and a vest top, plugged Laura in and was running past people on the pavement, and it felt good :)

If you'd told me a month ago that the idea of me running for 30 minutes was a possibility I wouldn't have believed you.  But now - now I can ee that it just might happen!

Sorry you asked now, aren't you?! ;)

I think that is just precious!

Believing in yourself... It does not get much better than that. :)

Go you sweetie... :)

Well, I love that quote for starters Oldfloss; in fact I read a similar one a few days ago and it made me cry -"You never know how strong you are, until being strong is your only choice" because of the losses we have had in our family recently. Running has given me a quiet strength and determination that I never really knew was there. And that is a massive thing for me...to know that I can..and that I am strong☺

You are...:)

I love that quote too... It is amazing, we have inner strengths that we know nothing about until we need them... :)

For me. also, comes the peace, within the strength...at least, most of the time.

Mmm - certainly food for thought..... I would say, reafirming things I knew about myself, but the learning goes on.....

It does indeed..I surprise myself...but..also become aware of weaknesses.

I've learnt that I am not a quitter and that the seemingly impossible is possible if you apply yourself to it and believe in yourself...

(and Laura of course) 😊

Not a quitter indeed.. you are brilliant. What is impossible anyway...just another word for a dream... :)

That I can.  I spent nearly 30 years with a bloke who was either always better than me at everything, or when he wasn't, denigrated my achievements or the activity.  So on the whole, I assume I'm pretty useless.

And I'm not :)

You're not.☺ You can and You do.

Your post is powerful...how many folk out there will identify with your words.
