I've been running since October last year and graduated on Boxing Day I've carried on just trying to increase my distance but mainly doing 5 ks, I have asthma and found running has kept me fighting fit until now I have picked up a virus and I'm unable to run I haven't run since last Tuesday and now I'm starting to really worry about losing fitness and just getting out of the way of running how have you all got over this? If you have taken a break

I had to take a break of almost 3 weeks due to illness. I'd just completed week 7, so I gave w5r3 a go, and then worked through the programme from there onwards. If you've only been out for a few days, then I would think that doing your usual run, but maybe taking it gently, would be fine.

The main thing is not to worry too much. You won't have lost much in a week. Go and have a run with the proviso of no great expectations and the promise that you will slow down if it is too much - and you will probably surprise yourself at what you manage to get through! This is supposed to be fun - not another stress on you - so stop worrying!

I agree 100% with Beek, just get out there and see how it goes, and good luck.

Many of us took time to complete the programme. Even if you can't run all of the next session, you could do some fast walking at the end of it. Then try the run again next time.

hey JJ I have not run since last Wednesday due to bad weather, but my fitness I know will not be affected by the short break. I have had a longer break of 10 days before and I was fine. So go out there put your worries behind you and just enjoy the run

Try not to worry too much. I had my first run for 2 weeks on Sunday after having flu. Instead of my usual 5k I ran 2 miles to try my legs and lungs. My advice would be go out and see how you do, try a shorter distance than usual. good luck

Today was my first run in 10 days and it was fine. 5 minutes in I was worried it was gonna be too tough, so I just took it really slow, and by the end of 35 minutes I'd gone further than ever before! 3.5 miles! Woop! Woop! You'll probably be pleasantly surprised at what you can do. :) Good luck
