I thought you might like to see what my local running track looked like at 7.30 am this morning ;) (Note: I was running AROUND the estuary. Not quite walking on water yet....)

I know I am! I can't believe that having my daughter marry someone from the other side of the world should have such a positive outcome for me. I love it here!

:)

Oh wow that is SO lovely. I am forced to run on the treadmill at the gym which is so boring. So I'm doing interval training for the moment as I cannot bear to look at myself in the mirror for 20 minutes continuously.

I know that feeling Mufasa. My local gym has frozen my membership till I get back from NZ. Frankly though I can't see myself getting on a treadmill again for months. I have discovered I really like running through the countryside alone and the memory of all those young fit people pounding away at 4 minutes per K on the machines next to me fills me with horror. I did just read the post about the dangers of running alone though so will dispense with my headphones now and give groups of shadowy trees a wide berth!

No need to give up entirely on your music/whatever it is you listen to - just use one ear bud then you can here your player and what is going on around you.

Hi Fitfor60. You are quite right. I think my family believe an alien has taken over my body. Who knows, they could be right. Sally is very well, though the baby remains stubbornly breech. He/she is due on Feb 25th, when my running may be curtailed with a newborn and a busy 2 year old to fill my days (and probably my nights). I'm making the most of it for the next month. I WILL crack 35 minutes for 5K.

Your motivation is motivating...35 minutes for a 5K...wow...tell me...what's your routine?

I would love to work on that challenge.

turnturtle profile image

Are you serious? 35 minutes is pretty slow on a Park Run, but I always look at the age-graded score. At 67 I am allowed to be slower than a 25 year old. In fact, if I could do 5K in 24 minutes I would be a joint world record holder for my age! So I ignore how fast everyone else is running if they happen to pass me. What I am doing at the moment is 5K moderate hill runs once or twice a week. My third run is 5K on the flat with four or five 20 second bursts of faster running in the middle of the run once I have got into a steady rhythm. There is not much method in my madness. It's just what works for me. But the fabulous weather here helps!

Lots of water on my route too. LOL

It looks fabulous there Turtle and must really encourage you to get out there and run, which is half the battle isn't it. My sis lived on South Island for a year and said that the scenery is breathtaking out there

Ha, lovely picture! I know Napier well. You must be loving the weather! Manchester is grey and drizzly & cold today & I've missed a run... Make the most of your time in Hawke's Bay. Running up Bluff Hill, now there's a challenge ;-)

I drove up Bluff Hill yesterday. It even strained my car's engine to the limit!
