Doctors orders . No running for two wks , no weight bearing exercise this includes cross trainer , . I can cycle if it's improved in a week . I can swim anytime & he's advised me to take rest of my week from work & rest it for a few days which is what I'm doing . Well I know now , that's how it is .
Had my orders : Doctors orders . No running for... - Couch to 5K
Had my orders
It's hard to do nothing and keep the leg raised if you have things to do. It will heal quicker though if you can keep off it. Easier said than done though. It's foul weather out today, with rains and gales, so that helps as you aren't constantly gawping out the window muttering "what if"
It's really hard to take the advice isn't it!! It's not a disaster to rest for a bit, you'll be out there again and it won't be like starting at week 1.
I know , I'm hoping I'm not going to lose much fitness this week , bikes coming out at the weekend & I'm on some bike rides , & swimming come Thursday .
Well it's good to have proper advice. Not always easy to follow, but it will be worth it. Having had quite a lot of debilitating illness in my life, I tend to see these enforced rest periods from the seagull eye view: on a scale of 75+ years of life, one week off work with your foot up is nothing and the benefits will mean a good holiday in NY and more running
Yes lemondoodle , your right . I felt a bit down in dumps yesterday , but compared to the things I see working in a hospital it's nothing , just a minor blip & I quickly felt ashamed of myself . Anyway it's surprising how much better my foot is after just a couple hrs off it swelling gone down . Sorry to hear about your illnesses , hope alls well now
It's natural to have felt the disappointment - the important thing is you've taken on board the advice AND cheered yourself up. So glad there is already evidence of the benefit of rest.
Well, I still have fatigue issues which I manage and I have been so happy to be managing the running well within this. otherwise, I am well enough as long as the meds work - I have literally crippling levels of psoriasis and the accompanying arthritis without rather strong meds I inject myself with every week. I tend not to think about the future very much, as there is no knowing how long the meds might work for, or when the side effects on my kidneys and liver will be too much.
Really sorry to hear this lemondoodle , what a inspiration to be out there running and getting on with life , despite all your problems . Credit to you . I really hope things keep going in the right direction for you . Makes me feel silly really , making such a big deal about a sprain . Well I'm relaxing & quite enjoying it lol .
Listen to AC/DC - that'll fix you up quickly!! Seriously though Rockette, am sedning positive vibes your way. D
It's really frustrating when you want to get out there, I'm in the same boat (again!) having re-tweaked an old injury and so also on enforced rest. It's all part of running for many of us, but we'll be back in the New Year, get well soon!
Aww poop poor you. You must be so frustrated. If you can get some swimming in it will keep your fitness up. Don't hurry it better as much as you might want to. Take that docs advice.
Glad you have been told proper! I was going to give you a teacher look over the glasses... You may think it is a set back but it will help you plan and build on what you have achieved. Nice and steady does it. Wishing you a good recuperation!
How's it going with the ankle Sparkette?
I'm back to the ice packs and mine is looking much better this morning. Yesterday the ankle was hugely swollen again. I piled up my pillows too and kept my foot elevated all night
Hi Misswobble , that's a good idea keeping it elevated in bed . I'll try that tonight . Is yours your ankle , or is it your foot ? Can't remember . Is yours worse in a morning when u get up ? My ankle is . Glad yours is getting there , I'm icing mine as I text lol .
& I've made a decision , I'm not running now till I come back from New York . We go on the 29th of this month , don't want to risk making things worse for there , we do a lot of walking . I'm sticking to mi push bike & swimming till mid feb. Then I'll start of gently , & should be up & running for the spring .
Smart move! I'm not going anywhere fast I realise that now.
It's my ankle. The swelling starts in front of the ankle bone and goes round the back to the inside of my ankle. I've got an ice pack on now and have my foot up on the pc tower. LOL These ice packs that you just stick in the freezer are a marvel!
I'm using a bag a peas lol . Laid on the couch with foot propped on pillows . How did u sprain yours , & how long since ? I read that many posts , I forget . Are they the ice packs for lunch boxes ? Is your ankle worse in a morning ?
I was running off-road up a steep hill! It was too steep and I should have walked it. I'm using a bag that can be used hot or frozen. My husband got it from the chemist. It's got a velcro stap and is perfect for my ankle. I sprained my ankle on 21st December! It was better this morning, after elevation and icing it. I've not done much at all today and have been using the ice on and off all day, You only keep the ice pack on for no more than 15 minutes at a time
Is yours worse in the mornings ? I dread getting out a bed with it .
No, mine is worse as the day progresses. I've been sleeping with my foot on two pillows and icing it for about 15 minutes last thing before I go to sleep. I was very good this morning! It's very swollen again now though and I think I will have to see a GP.
