not doing great :-(
Hi samk,
I think everyone struggles to some extent, and the first few weeks are definitely the hardest. However your muscles and breathing will get used to it quicker than you think.
Make sure you are doing the running part as slowly as you have to and don't feel the need to go fast. If necessary you can always repeat a week, but the fact that you managed the full session on your second day is a good sign.
I find easier running outside as you can change you speed easily and it's less boring, but lots of people prefer the treadmill, so that shouldn't hold you back.
Keep at it and I'm sure you'll succeed!
Hello there,
first congratulations for taking the step to a fitter life! You will see soon that this running thing is addictive and changes your perspective And also welcome to this great and supportive community!
I am a bit confused by the times you mention. Are you following the plan of C25k? Usually one is not supposed to run for 30 minutes until week 9. Perhaps the reason why you're struggling is somewhere hidden in a misunderstanding of the plan
But don't worry, we'll try to find out and help you fix it
thanks for you replies...lol I am following the plan...what I meant is I havent managed to do the full walks and runs I stop before the whole podcast has finished. will keep at it though really need to keep moving...
Ah, ok I already wondered why you'd complain about running for 30 minutes on the second run in week 1
If you feel the need to do so, repeat week 1 until you feel more confident. The program is really working. It has made a runner out of this former professional couch potato Have patience with yourself and don't give up. You'll see the first improvements soon
I think we've all struggled, if it was easy we wouldn't be here
I've just started and have my second day tomorrow. Keep reminding yourself that it WILL get better, even though it can feel extremely unpleasant sometimes. It's so lovely when you get to the end!
Going from zero to anything is a struggle at first. As said before, repeat if necessary. Its not a race and if it takes longer that nine weeks to complete, so be it - I have been doing this on and off for various reasons (injuries, family, work, time) for just over a year now and have not yet reached the end, but I know I will one day - (hopefully!!) Keeep going, it is, and will be a stuggle at times, but the sense of joy on completing a run at what ever stage you are at is worth it. You will also hear quite regularly that it is more a case of mind over body to do this. Take the runs at a slow pace and you will get there! I am treadmilling this thing as well and my running bits can vary between 4 mph up to 6mph, depending on how I am feeling. Keep going, it will be worthi it in the end.
Take your time and enjoy it - as said already its not a race............. you are only competing with yourself and the fact that you have even started this suggests your going to be the winner...
What speeds are you doing on the treadmill?
I use a treadmill myself and find it easier than outdoors, partly because I can keep an eye on my pace.
