I'm having real problems getting back into running. I hurt my hip in July and could barely walk. I rested up and after a couple of weeks I had another go. After 15 mins I was in agony again! After another 2 weeks I went back to a week 1 run to build myself back up. I kept building up to what felt comfortable but when I tried a 5 min run I was in agony again!
I've since been to my G.P who gave me anti-inflammatories and am feeling better. My problem now is when to try again. I've got my name down for another 10k in November!
Has anyone else had a similar problem and come through it? Any advice welcome.

I get sciatica which usually starts in my right hip joint and spreads down my leg, across my lower back and into buttocks, very painful. I'm not saying its sciatica you are suffering from but what I have found is using a foam roller on the painful area seems to really help. I only started using a roller at the gym in a stretch workshop but found it rather nice after an energetic class. So when sciatica struck a few weeks ago I rested from running, did gentle walking and loads of rollering. I'm told once a day is all you should do but I did twice a day for 10 minutes. That and strong anti-inflammatory tablets which I get on prescription sorted me out in a week, it was a new PB for me it usually takes weeks. If you want to try a foam roller you don't need to pay a fortune for one, mine was £6.99 from Sports Direct. Hope this info is of some help.
