Do the runs get longer?

Just completed day 2, I had put it off a bit but I think I already ran a lot better than day 1, felt more able to keep going. I checked my distance tracker on iPhone and both times have run 2.5 miles which is about 4K - do the runs get longer or do you just speed up?

Thanks in advance 😊

Great job. Enjoy closing out the first week.

The running parts get longer, the walking bits get shorter... sometimes the whole workout gets longer, sometimes it gets shorter. All this is as measured in terms of time. Pace and distance are irrelevant for this plan... this is about getting to 30 minutes of running and nothing more... 90%+ of us don’t get to 5k in the 9 weeks. Track the runs by all means, but you shouldn’t worry about pace... indeed you should slow down if you can’t talk in full sentences while running.

Thanks! Interesting that many don’t get to 5k, really good to know. I can’t imagine 30 mins running at the moment but hopeful it will come even if it takes more than 9 weeks!

I imagined running 30 minutes after my first run... I absolutely knew it was impossible... of course at that moment I was correct. This plan really does make the fitness level rise quickly, and endurance safely... you’ll be amazed at what you can do in a few weeks. If it takes more than 9 weeks, that’s ok... I left it 30 years to start running again, 9/29 weeks wouldn’t have mattered to me... and the end result is always the same, a much fitter, healthier and happier person who can run for 30 minutes.

I am thinking I will have to repeat the first week when I get to the end!

I thought that but i gave it a go and found i could do it, you will be surprised how quickly your stamina improves. I was told repeatedly to take it slowly and that was the best advice i have had, that, and be positive, i now turn any trepidation into excitement. Today i was excited to find out if i could run for 20 minutes, and what do you know, i could! I was completely unfit when i started and i am 51, now i feel loads better and fitter. You will too, just keep at it. You can do this, if you need to repeat a week do it, but have a go at the next week, you will be surprised x

Thank you. I will give it a go. I thought the app might get me to run for 30 secs lol. When Sarah said one min, I was like really?

I was wondering if I would feel like that too- I think I will just try wk2 day 1 and see how it goes, if I can’t manage it then I think it’s ok to back to week one or even try to do some longer and some shorter runs

I guess we have to listen to our body and see what happens. There is no hurry. We always want it now, but it tooks years to be sedentary didn't it lol?
