Hi everyone bit upset today. Managed to do run 1 of week 9 Saturday and realise that for the last few runs I have developed a bunion on my left foot it's swollen and inflamed. I'm worried because I have some arthritis in my fingers and strong family history of arthritis therefore not sure if its sensible to carry on running. I'm due to do race for life next Sunday and hoped to would also be my graduation run. Any advice or similar experiences, can't believe I got this far and iso enjoy the achievement.

You've come such a long way, don't be disappointed yet, why dont you head to the doc's tomorrow so you know what you are dealing with and hopefully have your mind put at rest, fingers crossed for a good outcome, Ally x

Thankyou, I think I'm probably worrying too much. It takes about two weeks to see our doc unless its urgent so I will rest it and see how it goes.

Maybe try a specialist running shop for some trainers too.

Good luck

Thankyou, I might try that, the trainers have been good so far but after research I will look into more padded cushioned trainers.

Or if not docs, go see a pharmacist.

I agree with Plinth, Chemists can give really good advice nowadays and avoid you have to see the doctor. Also have a look at this article which I have just found, its a really positive write up of someone that has a bunion and is a runner. Apparantly Paula Radcliffe had a bunion but went on to win a marathon after having it removed so try not to worry too much, I reckon you just need to find some different shoes and you will be well on your way to reaching your goal. Good luck and let us know how you get on :-) x
