I’m hoping to get views on my situation. I’ve been doing c25k on and off now for nearly 12 months I’ve got up to week 7 before now.. why the the intervals? I suffer from arthritis in the hips and can get excruciating pain in the hips and lower back. Dr advised stop running.. I’m 51 & over weight hence the running I do enjoy it and it helps my depression. I also have a great indoor exercise bike which dr suggested may be better for me.. so I ignored his advice and continued running anyway but still get the pain. I ran on Tuesday and due today. Though in a lot of pain.. so here’s the dilemma I need thoughts on.. do I run or do I give in and bike instead??
Please be honest..

That is such a difficult question for anyone to answer as we are all different and even within doctors different advice can be given. My advice to you would be to have a little look around and see if there are any doctors that are runners in your surgery or look for a sports physio (it would be better to be a sports clinic as they tend to all be sports people and therefore give sports advice). I have osteoarthritis and am over 50, I was a little overweight when I started but we are all different and I would hate you to take advice from anyone on here that is not relevant to you, but I do know some doctors are just against running with arthritis in principal while some say it is good for building up the muscles around the joints and that in turn protects them. I hope you can find a professional who can give you a opinion relevant to you. Take care. Rfc x
I am in no way a medical expert , but reading your post , all the information you've given and the fact you are in pain I think the exercise bike would be better for you . 😊
I guess another (obvious, sorry) thing would be to check that you're running as slowly and safely as you can, à la Japanese slow running method? Best of luck.
I'm with Realfoodieclub . Depends how badly you want to run. Going to a decent sports physio should cost less than a good pair of running shoes. or a decent dinner for two, or one hair appointment for Madame Loris.
