Hi Running4keeps Stick with it, I didn't lose weight till after I had graduated and hey ho one morning 4 lbs down. I hadn't got a lot to lose but with running 3 times a week it came off slowly and my body is a much better shape. Good luck with the rest of your journey. Pat .:-)

I have but in fairness I have been following a weight loss program too. However in saying that in previous attempts to lose weight I have lost very slowly but this time around I think the jogging has boosted the weightloss significantly. On another point have you been measuring yourself? In the weeks that I have been flexible with my food I have still seen an inch loss.

Keep going it will happen and remember all that you have achieved to date x

I began losing weight only when I was about to graduate - I believe that the longer, continuous runs may influence what you see on your scale. :-)

However, I must add that I decided to eat clean too so it has definitely helped me (I'm in the obese category according to BMI). It is said that key to losing weight is about 70% eating clean and 30% cardio + strength workouts and I now see that's it's true. Don't get discouraged though, results will come soon I'm sure!

Good luck! :-)

I graduated about 4 weeks ago, running still 3 x week, and still have not lost any weight! However, I have definitely changed shape and my tops fit me much easier now! I dont think here's any doubt that you have to change your eating habits to lose weight.

But I have loads more energy than before, and feel more 'body positive', which can only be a good thing. Keep going and I'm sure you'll start seeing/feeling results.

Good luck!:)

Yes, I lost weight. I started the running as an addition to the 'weight management plan' to up the exercise to help shift the last 'few' pounds.

I was 158.75 pounds in August when I started running, I graduated at the beginning of October at 147 pounds, continued running and reached 'target weight' of 138 pounds in November and am now hovering around 130 pounds. During that time I was still going to the gym 3 or 4 times a week, walking the dog and going trampolining once a week, monitoring my food intake and sticking to 1500(ish) calories a day.

Sorry, I should have said: Since Christmas I've noticed body shape changes, I'm sure I still had 'love handles' at Christmas but they're totally gone now, I'm still pear shaped but those fleshy bits at the sides have disappeared and I'm sure that's down to the longer continuous runs.

So monitor your weight if you want to but don't forget to monitor inches lost/clothes getting looser.

Beads - this is really encouraging to read and congratulations on your success! I am in the middle of week 6 and have gained a pound! I am on Weight Watchers and also doing some strength/cardio on days off running. I am curious, could you post some sample meals? I am trying to switch things up, and your loss is exactly what I want (same start weight and everything!). You are inspiring!

Planning is key, or that's what I found. I have a spreadsheet which detailed what I was going to eat at each meal and snack for a week, at the click of a button it would give me a proper shopping list. I got it from one on MSE which was just dinners and adapted it for 3 meals and 2 snacks. I'm slightly less organised now but still have a dinner menu plan for the week.

Tonight we're having prawns and octopus (yeah, not everyone's cup of tea), fried in a little olive oil with some garlic, chilli flakes and lemon juice. It should be over a huge plate of salad but given the rotten weather today I may not put the lemon juice in, add some passata and serve with lots of veg and some pasta.

Just a simple change which got rid of the first couple of stones for me was to not have starchy carbs at dinner, no bread, pasta, rice, potatoes etc from 6pm. (Massive bowl of porridge for brekkie the next morning though!)

I haven't lost a single pound, I've dropped a dress size though. Don't forget muscle is denser than fat! Don't just rely on the scales to track your progress.

Dont get hung up on the weight, I would think you need to be running at least 30 mins 2/3 times a week at a pace thats going to really strectch you in order to lose weight, unless you are going to reduce calories. The reality is you're probably increasing calories because of the running........... of course it also depends on whether you need to lose any weight anyway.... stick to improving time and or distance if it needs to come off it will........ good luck

I've lost 4.5 stone since march '12, but I'm also using myfitnesspal to measure what I eat.

When you do the maths exercise in itself doesn't lose much weight, according to sports-tracker a 5km run uses 500 calories, each gram of fat = 9 calories so if my maths is right a 5km run = 56g...

Of course there are other issues such as the running should build some muscle, and muscles burn more calories when you're resting..
