Running to music

Does everyone who uses their own music worry about having a playlist consisting of songs with the the correct bpm to match your pace or do you just play what you fancy? I've just been brought my first ever mp3 player & I'm not sure what to put on it ( or get my hubbie to put on it, I can't even turn it on yet!)

:-) some people use audio-fuel or jog.com to get a playlist with proper BPM. I find I do just as well listening to Pandora or a radio station. I am also learning to enjoy no music at all. :-) I'm considering loading an audio book and giving that a go. Good luck! Gayle

Hi Gayle I got tired of music a long time ago. I enjoy a good audio book ,or just the peace and quiet some times, and just jogging along saying to myself this is doing me good and keeping me fit. Pat :-)

Probably wrong but i just looked on my iTunes and built a list of songs that i like, I did choose boppy ones, so its a weird mixture of Bruce Springsteen, steps, adele, abba and who ever sings your sex is on fire! Works well for me, no idea of the bpm

I did worry about this but want some music to encourage me. I used jog.fm to find songs of a certain bpm that were slightly faster than my pace. First time out with the playlist I cut 40 seconds from my pace.

Thanks everyone as my pace is slow or slower I think I'll have a go at running to my fav songs for a start although the idea of an audio book sounds interesting, not sure if I'll be able to concentrate on that AND my breathing though! Thanks Ally x

I've started running faster since I sorted out a playlist of 160 bpm, with a 2-track finish at 165 :O

I have a playlist with songs at the correct speed for me to run to the beat, carefully arranged in gradually increasing speed order! I don't mind listening to something that's completely the wrong speed for running to, but find it very uncomfortable if it's only just the wrong speed - plus I find that running to the beat can help me keep going as my feet just do it without worrying about what my mind is saying...!

I do sometimes run without any music, but it doesn't always work for me, so I go with whatever I'm in the mood for.

At the moment I just listen to whatever comes up next on my MP3 but I have just asked my son to put some of his very fast, hardcore drum and bass on a playlist for me to see if that speeds me up. I noticed yesterday that I was jogging along quite quite casually to whatever was on and I really should go faster. I'll see what happens!
