DLCO

Hi all and this is to gain knowledge and a better understanding...I get the Fev1 now having asthma and emphysima is the DLCO Just as important this is something I need to also focus on when I have my next fpt next year...

I am sorry that I don't have the definitive answer you are seeking. I am pretty sure that the FEV numbers measure obstruction/restriction. The DLCO numbers are diffusing capacity. According to Wikipedia, it's the transfer of gas from air in the lung to the red blood cells in the lungs blood vessels. It's the part that determines the overall ability of the lung to transport gas into and out of the blood. I think that tells them if you are retaining CO2, but that's just a guess. I have no real clue what the numbers mean. I think we both need to ask our doctors at next visit. Have you tried using the search bar at the top of the page? Maybe others have asked this question in the past?

Hi read up yes it is important mine is 59% consultant said should be between 60 to 80% but that makes me having moderate emphysema not mild as he said. Mild is 70 to 80 so I am too end moderate
