I hope that everyone is doing ok and has the glorious sunshine โ๏ธ. Yesterday I had a lovely surprise as I got my appointment to have my hand operation on 6th February. ๐Canโt wait.
I thought it was never going to happen as I had to go back for another nose swab and I was convinced I had MRSA. I donโt !!! ๐
Anyway in the waiting time for this I have cut down to about 5 cigarettes a day BUT I am vaping again and just like before I am experiencing very bad coughing, sore chest and difficulty getting a breath. Vaping, I swear , caused my COPD in the first place.
So while I continue this stupid smoking habit of 44 years, I better vaping ( which is less unhealthy) or do I continue to smoke cigarettes, which I get no symptoms.
Sorry ๐ to ramble on but I would appreciate your help. Thanks ๐ xxxx
Hi Lynn, I'm glad you finally got a surgery date. I'll be praying for good results. Kudos to you for persisting in your attempt with quiting smoking. I know someone who is trying also. She's using Chantix. It's difficult no matter what route you take....but well worth it in the long run. Been there, done that.....and I thank God I did it. Pls keep us updated.
Thanks so much for your help and support. You are so kind. I hope you are having a good day/ night and not suffering too much. Where in the States are you? I used to live over there for a few years and loved it.
I live in Massachusetts ( east coast) & every October I vacation in Florida for the whole month. I'm already looking forward to that! The cold weather affects my breathing. Looking forward to Spring ! Enjoy your day. ๐
I lived on Oahu in Hawaii and Camarillo in California. Boy do I miss the better weather. Cold and damp not good for this illness but Spring is around the corner ๐Have a good day. Xxx

Hi Thanks ๐. Xx

Emily I am really serious as I have been smoking on and off for 44 years now and itโs time I quit. X
Congrats on getting a surgery date. By all means keep trying to quit both nasty habits. I quit smoking about 19 years ago before vaping was even heard of. I used chantix (when they were just realizing it might help reduce the urge to smoke), the nicotine patch, and licorice strips (to have something to "puff" on). The problem with vaping is you have no way to know what chemicals are in that stuff that you are putting into your lungs.
Quiting is probably one of the hardest things you will ever do, but it is so worth it. Like the old saying goes "if at first you don't succeed, try try again". It took me 3 tries before I was able to do it.
Thanks again for your support and I appreciate your response as it gives me incentive. I will keep trying and quit the vaping as it plays havoc with my chest. Hope you are having a good day. Thanks again ๐Xxxx
Hello Lynn676, hopefully you're able to stop smoking everything ๐ For questions about Chantix and the NHS you can contact the BLF, they should be able to answer questions for you, I think Chantix is called something else in Britain. I quit smoking 13 years ago Feb 27, it was so difficult, but once done I felt so good! Best of luck ๐ค
Hi Thanks so much for your help and support. I really appreciate it and it gives me the incentive to actually do something positive to stop smoking ๐ฌ. I hope you have a good day and not a lot of pain. Thanks again and take care. Love Lynn xxxx
Good morning, you'll have a lot of support from this forum for your efforts. And so very worth those efforts when you succeed! I've noticed that people feel better at different rates, some sooner rather than later. I felt better right away, but try not to lose heart if it takes awhile. The good it's doing your health is still taking place.
Hi Lynn676! I hope you are making progress toward quitting. Regarding the vaping- depending on the device you are using, you may actually be getting MORE nicotine thereby making it harder to quit. While yes, there is no tar in vaping- the vapor particles are smaller and penetrate deeper into lung tissue. I will have to do a little looking to find the scientific study that found this, but I'm sure a google search will bring it right up.
Anyway, I just replied to another post with a few suggestions about quitting smoking. Maybe we should post a topic for people who want to share their secrets to their own success?
Thanks ๐ so much. I have had 2 MRI scans in the last 3 years and since the first session of vaping 2 years ago both scans showed evidence of changes to the white matter in the brain ๐ง ? I donโt know if itโs related but funny coincidence. Anyway I am only smoking about 4 cigarettes a day now and donโt vape very much as I can feel it attacking my lungs. I will soon quit both. Thanks again for your support. Lynn
