When I was pregnant I experienced blood in stool and also black specks and mucus at times. I got a sigmoidoscopy because I couldn’t do a colonoscopy at the time. Now I’m two months postpartum and have a colonoscopy scheduled for December. I’m really worried about CC because of black parts in stool, blood, and sometimes diarrhea and constipation. It’ll have been 10 months after having symptoms to when I get a colonoscopy even though I got a sigmoidoscopy that found a hemorrhoid but nothing else sinister. I’m also worried about something bad happening during procedure :(((

Thank you for your reply. Can I ask what your symptoms were for there to be a colonoscopy?

I also had colonoscopy after sigmoidoscopy. All went well and nothing bad was found . I had a change in a bowel habit, stomach pain, mucus , unexplained anemia and occasional blood

I’m in a similar position! Experienced blood just before found out I was preagnent, very sugestiv of hemorroid because of color and mostly seen in the toilet paper. During the preagnency experienced sometimes again, my OB told me after an exame she was pretty sure that was hemorroids. Now 5 months post partum I see little blood sometimes, mostly on the paper. I saw black specks too, and mucus, wich I think was conected to the milk I used to drink, after I stoped desapeared. Now I too have to wait more at least 2 months to a colonoscopy because of covid in the area. The worst thing for me is that my dad had CC but at 55 and now I’m just turned 30 but this don’t make me feel any better :(

Hey I had very similiar symptoms to you while pregnant. It began when I noticed blood spots in the back of my underwear. Then I was using the bathroom more than normal, usually loose but also normal consistency. I also noticed black specks. Are you taking prenatals? I think that maybe have been a cause. I also had mucus in my stools and blood in the mucus sometimes .

About a month after birth I had red stool and freaked out so I got referred to a GI. He scheduled a colonoscopy. Leading up to the procedure I was super freaked out. I was also driving myself crazy examining my stool. Anyways at the end of the day the procedure was super easy. I even managed the prep while breastfeeding my 4 month old at the time. You got this mama! My scope was clear..nothing was found. If you have any questions please let me know!

Pregnancy anxiety hormones all that stuff can mess with your bowel habits. try not to worry.

Wow thank you so much it’s crazy how similar our stories are! Did you ever find out what the black specks were? My doctor suspects it is food

Skdj,

First, congrats on having a baby!!! Many blessings!!

Second, I am very happy to see you schedualed a colonoscopy. There really is no better way to see what is gong on in your colon.

Black specks in your stool is indicative of blood. It is actually blood that isnt fresh or near the rectum. That is wht I am so glad you are having the colonoscopy that will be able to see your entire colon.

I would honestly say there is nothing that you can do before you get the results of you clonoscopy soplease try not to worry or stress yourself out. If you can, call the screening place where you are having this done and see if there is any way they can fit you in sooner.

Thank you I appreciate it! When I asked the gastro doctor on the phone he said that since it’s not all black or large amounts that he’s pretty much certain it’s not blood and it’s just food I’m eating. He said he isn’t concerned at all but just doing it more for piece of mind. My blood work is all great and the sigmoidoscopy was totally normal except for the hemorrhoid so he said there’s no reason to worry thankfully
