I had a colonoscopy years ago - as I had a positive screening for blood (because I had a haemorrhoid).

Years later these sent me another bowel screening kit - and I thought that it would be another false-negative, so I did not bother sampling or sending. Years after that (two years ago) I had lower abdominal discomfort - so I sent off the kit and had a colonoscopy and polypectomy - in the sigmoid (between the rectum and the descending colon).

Now I have similar discomfort - phoned the doctor yesterday, who told me to phone 111 (medical telephone assessment) who told me to make an appointment to see the doctor... and I saw her today. She agreed that it seemed that the discomfort seemed to be coming from the sigmoid.

She wanted to put me on antibiotics, but she accepted that I did not take antibiotics... and booked me in for a blood test tomorrow morning - and told me to expect a bowel screening kit in the post.

It is nice to know that (here at least) the NHSD GP system is working.
