Hi all, TBH I've had blood in my stools etc for a while... for some reason I thought I have piles / hemeroids..
However throughout January I just didn't feel that great/ tied so thought best go to the doctor.
After an inspection the doctor confirmed I certainly don't have piles/ hemeroids and gave me a FIT test.
Any how this has come back >400
I have been rfered for an urgent colonoscopy. 40 years old and to be fare feeling anxious and scared about this. Each time I go to the bathroom to check if it's gone away as if it's a bad dream.
Been told there is a very high chance I have Bowel C

Thank you for posting on Colon Cancer Connected. The first thing you need to realize is that what you're experiencing could be caused by many different things. You're definitely on the road to getting some good answers. I would not focus too much on your FIT test results as you already stated you knew you had blood in your stool for a while. Then you started getting some fatigue and decided to get it checked out. You knew your FIT test was going to be positive; so, no worries from those results.
It is great that you're going to be getting a colonoscopy soon. That is the absolute best way to determine what's going on. That will definitely get you the answers you are looking for and thus decrease your anxiety about not knowing what's going on. You should also take note about any other symptoms that may be going on with you. Another good thing to know is if there is any family history of disease? That information would be good do you know when meeting with your gastro Dr.
Blood in the stool is definitely a sign that needs to be checked out. We always jump to the conclusion that certain things could be sinister. Please know you are doing exactly what needs to be done. You're not ignoring it. No matter what the cause is you just need to know why it's occurring. You're definitely on the path to doing that. The colonoscopy is the best procedure for you right now.
You said you were told that this is a very high chance that it's bowel cancer. Other than there being a family history of bowel cancer, I wouldn't go directly to that conclusion.

I think you're all over this and doing exactly what you need to be doing. Yes there is family history of Bowel cancer. My Grandfather passed away of same at a young age.
When I went to my doctor last week ( Thursday) I mention to him about regular reflux. He said I needed to take some relief for this and if continued to get a Endoscopy.
Hopefully I'll be able to book my Colonoscopy today and get this sorted asap so can have a understanding what's going on.
It is indeed the unknown that is the worst. ( Right now) I have a lovely wife and two amazing children aged 11 and 10 and we have made such a life together and have so many dreams we wish to achieve.
I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather passing away from bowel cancer. I would think that given your family history and the fact you have two young children; it would be good to know if you had any inherited gene variants. I would definitely ask your doctor about obtaining that information through genetic testing. Because if your genetic testing comes back as positive for certain gene variants associated with cancer, you would want to have your children tested as well. If you are negative for these variants, you children do not need to be tested.
There are inherited germline variants that are passed to you by your parents and then there are somatic mutations which develop over time due to things like environment and health habits. This is always something good to know even at your children's young age because then a surveillance program could be set up to make sure this aspect of their health is monitored.
As it ends up my family has lynch syndrome. This essentially means that cancer can hide from my immune system. Knowing my family history now, I should have had genetic testing when I was in my early 30s. Instead, I was diagnosed at age 49 and I was already stage 4. So, I'm a very big advocate for early screening. 👍

That's good advice Tom re getting Genectic Teating. I have passed onto my sister to do same.
My Referal was received yesterday ( Friday 17th Feb.9am) got Triage right away by consultant. Got call back at 11:45am ( 17th) and asked if I could pick my bowel prep up on Monday and booked my colonoscopy for Thursday 23rd Feb looking forward to getting this done with.
Hi! So happy you have had your colonoscopy and have some answers. When will you get the results back from the polyps that were biopsied ? I notice you said you have had your symptoms a while, so you recall how long ? I have been having similar symptoms for a while but no bleeding and I do have Ulcerative Colitis. I got a CT of my abdomen yesterday and still waiting for my doctor to tell me the results. I to am also in my 40’s with kids. Hang in there!
