Scared to death

Thanks to everyone who answers this. Very much appreciated.

On Friday night after dinner, my mom started to get stomach pains. They stayed through the night, but when she got up the next morning she felt better. Saturday afternoon, the pains got worse and by nighttime, they were unbearable. We took her to the ER. She had an EKG, blood work and a CT scan. Everything on the blood work came back normal except for her hemoglobin, which was low, but she is anemic. The CT scan showed a mass on her liver, something on her ovary and something on her colon. Fast forward, the mass on her liver turned out to be nothing. The doctor asked when she had a colonoscopy last and she said March 2018 and everything was normal. She just went for another colonoscopy and he found something suspicious on right side. We are just waiting for the biopsy results. After she had the CT scan she had bloody diarrhea, which never happened before. Another doctor came in and said when this happens it is colon cancer. Is this true? I m scared out of my mind. I had a cousin who died at 21 of colon cancer. Are there other explanations? The doctors aren t saying anything. Thanks again to anyone that answers.

Colon cancer is a slow growth.

It is also very treatable and as , if advanced, it affects the liver which is not fine I would not panic.

Although the chances are that this is not CRC get the biopsy results and be assured that all the research has provided true results. So many of us are treated successfully.

Follow the advice of your doctors and our prayers.

I am not sure that characterising stage IV metastatic colon cancer as ‘fine’ is particularly accurate, or in line with reality.

Agreed. Stage 4 with liver second site is less positive.

Sorry if I was a little preachy there Martin - currently facing this diagnosis with my wife and it’s not pleasant...

I cannot emphasise enough to folks - track the colon cancer potential warning signs and if it doubt insist on at least a stool test, or if in doubt a colonoscopy (heck you can get one yourself privately for the cost of a television if you really want!, I had mine without drugs and it’s one hell of a journey..!)

Catching this cancer early is vital

Hi, I hope it is nothing wrong to your mum. I have also done my colonoscopy a month ago, but I have not heard yet the results. So, I am a bit concern. How long do people wait in general?

If there is a problem they tell you immediately. The oncologist will have the information within 24 hours

My experience of colonoscopy is the same - quick notification of any polyp removal and biopsy (that will take longer)
