First COVID Antibody Test

noeagaman profile image
20 Replies

I just got the results back from my first COVID antibody test. It said that my antibody level is 150. Is this a decent level? It is difficult to find much information on this.

I am trying to see if I can feel a little secure if we have family over for Christmas. I will probably wear a mask and keep two air purifiers on all day.

Thanks in advance for any advice with this.

Chris

do not change anything you have been doing. It took six vaccines to get me to 194. We really do not know for sure what any of this means. But, I was hoping to get something closer to 25,000 like most people without impaired immune system.

Thanks for the reply, David! It seems that these test don't tell you much and I feel like I wasted $75 dollars. Oh well. I will definitely be using all of the protective measures.

Hi noeagaman,

If you read all the prior posts - some are in the box on this page labeled "Related Posts" you will likely conclude that the antibody testing results like yours are better than a zero result but no one really knows how to connect it to the risk of hospitalization and death for CLL patients. The LLS that was studying the correlation has stopped testing for antibodies.

Here are recent opinions from experts suggesting that the spike antibody tests are less relevant for the latest variants, and well fitted N95/FFP2 mask respirators, adequate ventilation, and using antivirals like Paxlovid are the recommended actions for CLL patients.

Good morning, Len. Thank you so much for this reply. I have been following posts about this for a while but could not remember if there have been any new medical opinions on the subject. I do plan on wearing a good mask when family are here, and they have all agreed to test since they are flying here on a plane. We will also have two air purifiers running, but no windows open as it is supposed to be around 20 degrees here on Christmas day.

Hi noeagaman,

If you are interested I have recently found two types of respirators that may be slightly better (liquid / oil resistant) than the run of the mill N95 dust respirator.

3M Particulate Respirator 8577, P95, with Nuisance Level Organic Vapor Relief (Pack of 10) smile.amazon.com/gp/product...

Honeywell Safety NIOSH-Approved, N95 Cup Mask with Nose Clip, 20-pack (DC365N95HC) smile.amazon.com/Honeywell-...

-

Of course getting the best fit and having an effective (dry?) mask is important.

Whether the oil/liquid enhancement is significant or not, is a question I cannot answer.

I clicked the link out of curiosity and notice these are so much cheaper in the US than they would be in the UK.

Did you search the UK Amazon site for the same product description or click the link that will take you to the USA site and that will likely assume they are imported from USA to UK?

I've just read another post of yours saying that quality masks are available free in many US pharmacies. I can't see that ever happening here!

I tried Len's lankisterguy 's suggested selections from Australia and received "Currently not available" and "Not in stock" warnings, with no pricing, though they can be imported to Australia, stock permitting. Local stock is available with free shipping. (After all, they aren't heavy/bulky, since they're folded flat).

We don't have masks free from pharmacies in Australia either, but they are available for use outside the pathology lab, where they are again/still required to be worn. Problem is that they are the lower cost medical/surgical/procedure mask variety. During the first couple of years of the pandemic, the local library had packs of 5 free at the entrance. They were from a local manufacturer, encouraged by the state government to provide supplies for public service employers and sold to the public, stocks allowing. The lower cost masks are about 50c ~35P each. The much better FFP2 (N95) masks are only about twice the cost, but can be safely worn for a total of 5 hours or so. They rely on the straps clipping behind your head for a tighter seal vs the around the ear loops of the procedure masks.

Chris - I’ll pass along words from the lead researcher of the LLS Study (that measured Covid spike antibodies per LabCorp testing that many on this forum and I were volunteers in that study) regarding my test findings if that helps alittle answering your posted question …

Apr 2021 - I Scored 100 U/ml spike antibodies after J&J shot (my first Covid vaccine shot) n Larry Salzman (lead researcher) said that number was in the “low bucket”. There were 3 buckets of scores he noted back then: 0 (or near 0), low, n high (>250 U/ml). He said a high score was a good place to be. Makes sense.

The above comments were for LabCorp testing back in early 2021. Scores for LabCorp tests at certain test sites now can be as high as >25,000 U/ml. You didn’t note if your 150 score was a LabCorp test? There are other labs that use a totally different score testing numbers.

Hence, might be safe to say your score is “low” per the lead researcher of LLS Study, for what that is worth?…. If your test was a LabCorp test.

Larry went on to note, at that time, that they didn’t know the level of protection from Covid that the antibodies scores indicate.

Be interesting to hear what happened to those on this forum that went thru the study, right up to a couple weeks ago, if they got covid, and if so, what were their antibodies score (or a rough guess) at time they contracted Covid?

Here’s hoping your antibodies number helps regarding Covid.

Thank you so much for this very informative reply! I guess that I will continue doing all that I can to protect myself. All we can do is protect ourselves.

I had 30 :(

Better than a stick in the eye but I’m not eating in restaurants, eating communally at anyone’s home, or being anywhere in public without a mask. Like was mentioned - better than zero.

That number is not very high. If I must go out, and be around others, I wear my N95 mask, consistently. Went out to see “Hamilton,” and wore N95 and another mask, as well. We wear surgical gloves when shopping, as I have always known that the carts are never cleaned. I got a nasty HPV wart on my hand a couple of years ago, when I already had CLL and did not yet realize how vulnerable I was. Wear the surgical gloves now, then toss them.

The reliability of the blood antibody test has a limited life of c. 90 days after your vaccination or covid infection. The antibodies are produced by Memory B cells and Plasma cells stored in the bone marrow where these cells are produced, and other lymphoid organs and your 600 lymph nodes. When you are reinfected or vaccinated the memory B cells can rapidly respond to the virus as they have previously developed the right markers to attack the virus. A more accurate test than the blood test is therefore the bone marrow serum or other lymphoid organs where those memory cells which are responsible for producing the antibodies reside with a much longer lifespan than in the the blood.

You didn’t say where you tested. >150 is the top number at Quest Diagnostic. 25,000 is the top number at Labcorp.

low amount. 4 & 5-figures you are starting to get in the mid to highish ranges. Medical industry is unable to comment on what level is protective vs. Covid. In June, my. 1) Spike was 800; 2) nucleocapsid was "undetected"; 3) ACE blocking <10. Per doc, I'm basically unprotected. I'd say next.time, you should also push for the Ace blocking test. Then Doc did IG which results were <10 = low. I'm on Medicare so I guess wasn't charged for the AB. tests, OR it was because I pushed the doc to add to my CLL labs. I had my bivalent. VAX in OCT.,. so I'm going to request AB testing again. with my CLL labs soon.
