Has anyone had the AstraZenica Evusheld vaccine? If so, do you feel confident that you now have protection
Evusheld: Has anyone had the AstraZenica... - CLL Support
Evusheld
I've had it, but I'm still a little iffy about my protection. Old habits are hard to break.

I have had it and it lessens my covid anxiety but I remain careful. It takes 2 weeks to kick in. I am in active treatment so I still will not eat inside at a restaurant, go to a gym or get on a bus, train or plane. I think the big unknown is how it works against omicron.
Per NPR:
Analysis by AstraZeneca — completed last year — showed that the drug reduced the risk of getting COVID-19 by 77% and that the protection from a single two-shot treatment lasted for at least six months. Early data suggests it may work less well against the omicron variant of the coronavirus, but it is still expected to offer some protection.
Lindaan, Please keep in mind that Evusheld is not a vaccine, and will not elicit an adaptive immune response. It provides passive immunity and will not, for example, result in the activation of B or T cells. Definitely it has been shown to provide protection against severe infection, but it's not a vaccine.
My understanding is that its protection is nearly immediate though it may not peak for weeks.
Purely for my own personal curiosity, I was tested at Labcorp for antibodies at week 1, 2, and 4 after my initial treatment of Evusheld. Each test came back with a higher value. The test value at 4 weeks was 2401.00 antibodies. I was given a second vaccine six weeks after the first due to the recommended dosage increase per the FDA(I believe). I just received the result as it has been 4 weeks since Evusheld(vaccine #2). My antibody came back positive again with a numerical value of 5026.00. I’m not sure how to apply these numbers to any real world COVID exposure. I am happy however to show a positive reaction to antibodies after the negative reaction to 3 COVID vaccines.
I’ve had it but have yet checked for antibodies. That said, I know someone who had it the same day as I and she had a test. Her test came back full immunity. I’m excited to get my test. I saw the test results from her test. Very impressive.
What test are you talking about? Evusheld is 2 different monoclonal antibodies.. It's not a vaccine. If they are testing for antibodies (Sars-Cov-2), they are checking for a response to the vaccines, and/or prior infections. I have not seen any literature that states the Evusheld will be detectable in antibody tests.
Agreed. Actually it is also for those who cannot receive the covid shots. Yes I did get two shots, one in each cheek. The person I know who has results were SAR-COV-2 Spike Ab, Interp ,S VALUE POSITIVE, SAR-COV-2 Spike Ab, Quant, S U/ml Value >2500.
Standard U/mL range
This person went the same day as I did. I sure hope i get the same result when I get my test.
Yes, that is the standard Covid antibody test. Looking at the bodies response to the spike protein and the antibodies created from vaccination or infection.
I am double vaccinated and boosted. Had 0 antibodies in 4 different test. I also had the Evusheld on January 12.
Evusheld will not effect your SARS-Cov-2 antibody levels. Your friends >2500 results is from prior infection of Covid and/or vaccination.
I edited to add: please don’t take that as an “attack”. I am simply trying to understand what you are saying.
Evusheld is a pre-exposure prophylaxis consisting of two long acting monoclonal antibodies approved for high risk immuno compromised. It is not a vaccine.
My understanding is that pre-omicron trial data had an efficacy of 83% and it may be somewhat less effective against omicron. So it by no means is a guaranteed preventative (and there are reports of people who’ve had Evusheld still getting covid), it is certainly better than if one had no antibodies from the vaccines.
I managed to find a clinic who had them and they were willing to work with me to get them despite that I wasn’t a patient previously. An order from one of my doctors was also required. I spoke with the clinic on Monday and they said they’d do some checking. I honestly didn’t expect to hear anything back. But I got a call on Wednesday and I was given the course this afternoon.
I do not view it as a “pass” to do things differently than I have, having it does give a sense of relief that I have antibodies on board for when I have no choice but in-person appointments, as well as the hope that should I get covid it will be less severe.
My oncol confirmed that if I should get covid after getting evusheld, they likely would not give sotrovimab (even if available), but an antiviral may be an option.
Yes, I have had it. Have no idea the protection I have. I haven't changed any of my lifestyle yet.
Yes, I had Evusheld approximately 2 weeks ago. I went to Labcorp and did an antibody test one week out from Evusheld with antibodies tested at 1047, I’ve another test scheduled for exactly 2 weeks from Evusheld. Just my own personal experiment.
Since I made antibodies through the vaccine doses and quickly lost them I feel a little more secure having gotten the Evusheld shots this week. But my CLL specialist cautioned me to not take risks, not to gamble my behavior on having the Evusheld. So masking, distancing, are still necessary for me in W&W.
I had the EVUSHIELD shots 4 days ago, so far no after effects and the injections were easy to take. However I have been on IMBRUVICA for the past couple of years and I ask my oncologist for a new medication because I am tired of the diarrhea. Anyone have a suggestion for a new medication that I could take that you did not have a diarrhea issue with. I would appreciate any suggestions . Gary
Zanubrutinib, another second generation BTKi drug is available to you off label in the USA. Imminent officially approval by the FDA for the treatment of CLL is anticipated and NCCN included it their list of recommended CLL treatments last year. It may not improve that side effect, but it's worth a try.
