Night Sweats

Hello CLL Community Friends. I hope you are all doing well, remaining healthy and safe, especially during these unprecedented crazy times. I was diagnosed with CLL in May of 2018. I've been on wait and watch. Just had a visit with my hematology oncologist last week. My numbers look good and my appointment was encouraging. I have been suffering with night sweats, however, in past, I would get them for a few days, and then I wouldn't get another for months. I've been getting constant, repetitive sweats for the last 30 days. My Dr said if they continue for the next 2 weeks, he plans to do some more testing. Is there anything I can do to help combat the sweats, or at the very least, help to cool me down and keep me dry. I can't get a good night's sleep. Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Len, Thank you very much. I knew of these related posts, I was hoping someone may give me the shorter "Readers Digest" reply. I will paw through them. Hope you are doing well. Regards.

I finally saw a CLL specialist at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. He was wonderful! But to the sweating problem he asked if any docs had recommended meds to elevate the sweating. The answer was No! He recommended to my PCP a drug called Glycopyrrolate 1MG. I started taking it a week ago and it has helped so much. No more sweating day or night. No one has ever recommended anything to control the sweating. My former Oncologist-Hematologist looked at me strangely when ever I brought up the sweating.

If the night sweats are Cll related there is not much I know short of treatment to stop them from happening.

They were very annoying for me in the months leading up to treatment. I slept in moisture wicking tee shirts at night, lowered my air conditioner and ran my ceiling fan at night. I would keep a couple extra shirts bedside and towel off change shirts if needed during the night.

I like that your doctor is repeating labs and such to see where you are with your Cll, if it’s even your Cll causing the sweats. Night sweats can be associated with advancing Cll. I know my night sweats were caused by my Cll because they stopped very shortly after I started ibrutinib.

Thank you ! Though my Dr says I am doing remarkable well, and when mentioning the sweats, his reply was if it persists he will run more tests, I am at odds, I am doing well, bloods are good, yet I have night sweats, probably associated with CLL, therefore, how can I be doing well, yet having more sweats ? Thanks for you suggestions and advie. Let's see what the Dr says.

Hi, I usually get night sweats when my body is fighting some other ailment or infection, even mild infections. Is that the same with you, or are they just random?

It is somewhat random, but, lately it seems it has been 30 consecutive (plus) days.

Sleeping on oversized cotton beach towels and using one as a cover, with extras by the bed so you can towel off and make a quick bed change can help. In cooler weather a cotton terry cloth robe, with an extra by the bed.

Eating sweets before bedtime, even fruit, increases my chances of getting night sweats!

Hello CouldBworse

I had night sweats just about every night for the three months before my B+R treatment. No night sweats now. I don't know of anyway to stop the night sweats other than treatment, but you can do some things to make them easier to bear. I bought myself a buckwheat pillow, it absorbs the sweat and also stays cooler. I like my buckwheat pillow so much that I still use it long after stopping night sweats. I also had a 3 foot by 6 foot quilted hospital bed pad which absorbs most of the sweat from my body. I also tried positioning fan on my legs and feet during the night. A fan blowing on my face keeps me awake. Blessings.
