My understanding is that the vaccine is for more than 1 type.

Who knows it could have been! They cannot vaccinate everthing but take what you can get!

Here is more info on the vaccines:

cdc.gov/features/adult-pneu...

"Two vaccines help prevent pneumococcal disease:

PCV13 (pneumococcal conjugate vaccine)

PPSV23 (pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine)

Older Adults Need Two Pneumococcal Vaccines

CDC recommends 2 pneumococcal vaccines for all adults 65 years or older.

You should receive a dose of PCV13 first, followed by a dose of PPSV23, at least 1 year later.

If you already received any doses of PPSV23, get the dose of PCV13 at least 1 year after the most recent PPSV23 dose.

If you already received a dose of PCV13 at a younger age, CDC does not recommend another dose.

PCV13 protects against 13 strains of pneumococcal bacteria and PPSV23 protects against 23 strains of pneumococcal bacteria. Both vaccines provide protection against illnesses like meningitis and bacteremia. PCV13 also provides protection against pneumonia.

These vaccines are safe, but side effects can occur. Most side effects are mild, such as arm swelling or soreness, and do not affect daily activities."

It is my understanding that the minimum period between receiving the PCV13 and PPSV23 vaccinations (assuming you get the PCV13 shot first) is one year for the immunocompetent and eight weeks for the immunocompromised. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Sounds right. Got mine last year in May and June.

If you don't mind me asking did they appear on their own or did it start with another illness and evolve into pneumonia?

I feel I got a bug from helping a friend clean an extremely dirty house ..However I had a fall and got pains on side of rib cage . Dr said no breaks but damaged Iigaments . HOWEVER this proved to be wrong and was the most painful Pleurisy. I spent the day oranizing a lovely class reunion , Drove 80 km home --still feeling ok and then down hill in a couple of hours and being ambulanced to hospital. Very sudden and I was in for a few weeks . First person in the world to trial a drug so they .could drain my lungs which were causing great stress to all .Successful.Don't want to go through it all again , hence my questions .
