Z Pak and Tamiflu

I was just prescribed tamiflu and a z pak as I have a fever of 102.8. Can these be taken together? I will follow up with Mayo tomorrow - they wanted me to get a flu swab to test for flu before getting a scrip for Tamiflu but no one has them in the SF Bay Area. So the local urgent care doctor prescribed me both due to the fever. Any insights would be much appreciated. I’m on Ibrutinib and it’s doing a good job so far.

I don't know about the z pac interfering with Ibrutinib. Hopefully someone here who is more familiar with the possible drug interactions will post. I would think, if there isn't a problem with an interaction with ibrutinib that the two would be safe together. Good that you are being seen tomorrow at the Mayo. Best for them to answer this. Meanwhile stay well hydrated. If water is an issue suck on ice chips.

I’m not actually being seen at Mayo as I’m out of state but will touch base with my oncologist remotely. This has knocked me out. Stay away from crowds everyone!

Having just had the flu, I took Tamiflu and Z pak. No problems and no contra indication with Ibrutinib. Tamiflu is an antiviral as you know and z pak an antibiotic.

Most patients with cll eventually take an antiviral and an antibiotic either preventitively or acutely for an acute infection.

Your doctor gave you Tamiflu to try to lessen the length and severity of presumed flu. Tamiflu is often effective if taken withiin 48 hours of the beginning of your symptoms. The doctor gave you the z pak because your fever is a little higher than what is common for viral illness and would help if you have a bacterel opportunistic infection as well due to your immune system being further weakened by the presumed viral flu illness.

You should see the doctor again before the Tamiflu is gone if your fever persists above 101.
