Hi Everyone,

Sat here waiting for call from surgeon regarding hubbys bowel Cancer op. He went down to theatre at 12 noon and surgeon did say it could be 5-6 hr op. Wish he would hurry up and phone and then I will know how hubby is, and I can relax a bit.

CLL still on wait and watch, just need to get his HB levels up. Does anyone on here know if you have a cancer removal operation your WBC goes down and HB goes up. It would be interesting to know.

Will keep you informed if outcome as soon as I know.

Thinking about you and your husband Susie and sending huge best wishes for a total success. Sorry I don't know how the levels may be affected.

Please let us know when you hear. Best wishes,

Newdawn

Hi Susiecarer,

the cancer op won't make your husband's wbc go down, it's likely to have the opposite effect because of a rise in neutrophils (a reaction to the operation and protection against infection). There shouldn't be any effect on the CLL. Hb may go down due to some blood loss in theatre but he may be given a transfusion.

I'm sending my very best wishes for a good outcome, please look after yourself too and let us know how he is.

Hoping it would be the opposite with the HB as he has been suffering with iron deficiency anaemia and they now say the "mass" was what was causing the anaemia.

Interesting about the wbc though.

Thanks for wishes

Yes, you might remember me being very persistent in saying his anaemia needed investigating quickly and this is exactly what I was concerned was the cause.

You've both been through a lot but he's in safe hands now and hopefully things will improve from now on.

take care

Jackie
