Update on safe pain relief

Received phone call from Liver Doctor yesterday tea time. I was told that it was safe for me to take up to 3g Paracetemol daily which is up to 6 x 500mg tablets daily. 8mg of Codeine daily can be taken if necessary along with a laxative as it can cause constipation. Tramadol and other Opiates should be avoided if possible as they can cause or worsen Encephalopathy. Combinations such as Co Codamol are best avoided. It was also decided to put me back on the List. If anyone should need pain relief I would strongly advise contacting your team/Doctor as I have done. There is lots of information out there and different hospitals have their own guidelines so always find out which is best for your situation from your own team. Thanks to everyone who has posted on this subject, I am now focusing on getting mobile again. Thanks again.

On the transplant ward I was strongly encouraged at various times to take Paracetamol, Tramadol, Fentanyl and Oramorph, with some reluctance on my part. I completely refused Codeine due to its constipation side effects but Tramadol turned out to be just as bad. Later, on the medical ward the nurses had to get permission from the doctor to give me just one Paracetamol tablet.

Thank you, can not wait to get moving again, I will never take normal mobility for granted again, I had no idea how bad immobility can be until this happened, thanks again for your kind words.
