hello! I am unfortunately have liver cirrhosis obviously it’s entirely my fault because I’m an alcoholic but over the last four years I have been in and out of hospital because I’ve been so ill and have also been drinking on an off during that time but whilst I’m not drinking I am always weak And find it very hard to walk. Does anyone else have this problem? My doctor said liver disease affects different people in many different ways and can affect many different parts of the body. Thank you.

Welcome to the board Chi,
Firstly keep posting, as there are others who are on your Journey or are now abstinent, and will offer help and support.
I can only share with you my experiences from 2021, where I found myself on ward 7 the liver unit at my local hospital, after feeling extremely tired for sometime, just doing simple tasks, I eventually collapsed.
People were in various stages of liver disease, I saw people crawling on the floor walking with the help of a nurse and so on.
I wouldn't say I was a raving Alcoholic, I just drank too much, and although not everyday, weekends and Tuesdays became a drinking routine, I also couldn't care less about what I ate, and had put on extra pounds. Which is what the diagnosis turned out to be after countless tests biopsy, advanced liver disease with cirrhotic bridging was diagnosed, described by my consultant as doing a very good job of reaching cirrhosis but not quite there yet...
Roughly three years on, I have been dry for 2 and a half years and losing weight slowly, but surely (better diet). Now fibro scan 7 from 19 in 2021, bloods normal, but still focused on each day as it comes and staying away from the grog and junk food which isn't easy.
Weakness, certainly in muscles and aches are very common, with medication is normal, it does get better as time goes by, i was given vitamin B complex tablets, but should it get worse then obviously inform your doctor or consultant.
All the very best to you, wishing you success.
I imagine you are malnourished and losing muscle mass hence your weakness. I am sending you a chat message with some information that may help improve your muscles, strength and energy levels.

Please share this information with others who are experiencing the same symptoms. Thanks
I can share it privately 'cos it isn't relevent or appropriate to all. Best advice is for folks in this situation to seek to get a consultation with a liver specialist dietician who will give appropriate and individualized advice.
I understand. I feel it would help me. Let me know how to receive it privately. Thank you.
I'll send you it via private chat message in the morning when I am on my computer rather than on phone as it's a lengthy document. 😀
That is great. Thank you.
Hi and good morning would you mind forwarding this on to me too please? I have constantly asked my liver team about this but never get a response I know that your not a specialist but would love to see how I can help myself with your information, many thanks xx
Hi yes it does, for me it affected my breathing ,it dramatically changed my skin I developed spider nevi on my face arms and torso I was on oxygen 24/7 ,lfound it hard to sleep and I increasingly could not walk ,it was difficult to remember things and lost confidence to do things on a daily basis , then I developed liver cancer. Please if you love your family , don't drink not even one dropI recently received a liver transplant and I was so lucky but it is a life style change a big one. I'd would do every thing you can to avoid this situation .
The liver can repair its self , do what the doctors say and avoid alcohol like the plague.
I know it's hard but I 'll be wishing you well
Thank you so much. I really am trying it’s just so difficult. The good thing is the last two times I’ve fallen off the wagon so to speak I have managed to stop myself without being hospitalised. I am in the process of starting a treatment of tablet, which can last anywhere between six and 12 months! It has an 80% success rate and it somehow changes the way your brain makes you think about alcohol! I’ve had the assessment and all the tests and I can go ahead so I’m going to give that a shot! I have heard many stories about liver transplant that yes it makes you live but you still have problems with your health. I don’t know if this is true but I have read many stories about that! I hope you’re doing well and thank you for taking the time to comment🙂. Take care.
