What do you mean by currainting ? There's no such word. I don't believe you can expect anyone in this group to tell you what pain relief your doctor should suggest to you.
I was only asking a question didn't think I'd get such a cheeky reply
I don't know why you made that unnecessary comment. (Cheeky). Actually your post/question was verging on the naive. This forum is not for obtaining a diagnosis - it's for giving support for anxious liver diseased patients. To the best of my knowledge in all the yime I have been using it, it is not here for asking for recommendations for drugs for pain relief. That's a very specialised branch of medicine and anaesthesia. If you are already being prescribed Tramadol and it's not working for you then that's a conversation for your doctors. You still didnt explain what you mean by currainting?
She means "Excruciating pain"
Thanks - you may be right - As the word doesn't exist there's nothing wrong with making it up but it should be defined to save confusion 😁
Typos are innocent.
It's this members first post and I'm not sure it's of any value to be so critical.
The main question is basically: what have other people (with liver disease) been prescribed by their Dr's - knowing this means I can at least run it past my Dr.
Pain relief is a challenge with compromised liver function and constant pain is insidious. Not entirely an inappropriate question worded like that.
Do you mean visceral? I had emergency surgery for an incarcerated ( strangulated)intestine. Intestine protruded through an umbilical hernia caused by ascites. One of the worst pains I’ve ever felt. I have a high tolerance for pain but this was unbearable. There’s no way I could have even made the post that you made. If your pain is caused by gallstones and the pain is so intense you need to discuss possible surgery with your doctor. Sorry your in pain. Hope it gets better soon.
They won't give me surgery due to my liver being so enlarged but thanks
My hubby has cirrhosis and a couple of years ago during an MRI scan they discovered he had gall stones blocking his common bile duct and putting him at risk of major infection which would have destabilized his liver. They can't remove his gall bladder as it has fused to his damaged liver so they instead carried out an ERCP where they picked out the stones and widened the mouth of his bile duct to hopefully allow any further stones to pass unhindered.
Has this line of treatment not been explored? (It is basically an enhanced endoscopy).
They can't leave you in indefinite pain nor risk your liver due to potential infection or further damage from a cocktail of pain killers.

Pain killers are not recommended if you have liver diseases and Tramadol is highly additive and bad for your heart.
Hi , please make your doctor aware that the current combination of medication is not helping you , A different combination may help but if you don’t keep them informed it will be assumed that the current pain relief is working.
Good luck !
As of my understanding you can’t take those medications if you have liver disease.
Yes I've had that pain, but it's usually associated with an infection, caused by the gallstone blockage, so if its persisting and you have a fever I'd go back to the hospital or through your GP to get it sorted. Usually antibiotics, and pain relief prescribed by medic who is aware of advanced liver disease, I was given short term Df118 meds until infection had gone, my gallbladder is down for removal as the infection and stones get stuck regularly. It certainly worked with plenty of latctalose & sena to counter constipation which Is a side effect of that medication.
The BLT liver nurses may be able to advise. I’d give their helpline a call. Or your own liver nurse if you’ve been given one. If it gets bad you may need to head to A&E. Sometimes that’s the only way, but I know the waits there are awful atm.
