Hi all, l just had bloods done as l have a very mild ache on my right side thats annoying me (could be totally unrelated) anyway my bloods came back all good apart from my liver enzymes which my doctor described as slightly deranged lol im otherwise healthy and only take tylenol when needed and the pill. GGT-99
ALT- 57
Bilirubin normal at 8.
Albumin and globulin also normal.
Doctor wants me to repeat test in 4 weeks.
My questions are..
1. When l did my bloods l was in the middle of a 10day course of antibiotics...can that raise enzymes?
2. Since l got my results l haven't touched alcohol, can l have say one red wine at night or total abstinence?
3. Can you have temporarily high enzymes that go back to normal in time?
I guess its given me a fright and making me think of how l can make lifestyle changes in the future, thanks for replying.

1) Yes, antibiotics can sometimes raise liver enzymes. Indeed, whatever you were taking the antibiotics for could also raise them. If you'd taken Tylenol before the test too that also could have resulted in a slight raise in enzymes.
2) Not a bad idea staying off alchohol until you get a retest. It'll avoid that giving a spurious result next time. But, unless the doctor says so, there's no real need to avoid alchohol in the future. Just follow the usual sensible drinking advice given to everyone.
3) Yes, it is very common to see a raise in enzymes that returns back to normal. Many minor ailments or the stuff used to treat them can lead to a temporary rise in liver enzymes. Liver is a sensitive little beastie, lol. Doesn't take much to upset it, where it then spits out its dummy in the form of enzymes. It is though a resilient little tyke too, so quickly heals itself afterwards. In the main this process leaves absolutely zero long term damage. Its just the natural way the liver deals with things.
Hopefully, your results will just be a blip and they'll be back to normal, or at least reduced, next time you do the tests. That's usually what happens in these cases.
I note MINTVCX has mentioned AST in their response. They rarely do that as standard here in the UK either. So that not being included in the tests wouldn't be an issue.
Oh thankyou for that, makes me feel a whole lot better. I was on Amoxicillian for strep throat and even tho you're not meant to l stopped a day early cause l felt like they were really upsetting my system. Im quite sensitive to medication so that's probably whats caused this. Thanks for your reply
Hi Tiff76 I had (still have) a dull ache in the RUQ too and actually managed to see a doctor who checked my tummy area and found nothing sinister, but had blood tests too, and she said not to worry if I dont hear anything the tests were fine. I didnt hear anything, but have stopped drinking just to be on the safe side! Good luck with the next ones, keep us posted.
Oh you do too? I was wondering if it was my gallbladder but have no other symptoms and its not sore where my gallbladder is. My back however gets sore and l read somewhere that if your T-10 gets irritated it can give you abdo pain .... weird. Anyway thanks for ur reply and hope yours resolves soon. Quitting alcohol for a while can only be good for us hey? 😊
