Does anything help the itching related to high biliruben. Husband is taking Colestyramine sachets , has tried chorphenamine 4mg, otc antihistamines, and prescribed fenofexadine 120 also using Dermacool 5% cream all of which are useless. Any advice greatly received. Thank you .

Terrible itching keeping my husband awake
Hi. My partner suffers with quite severe itching, mostly at night. He's never been prescribed anything but uses Eurax to help with the itch and moisturise. Not brilliant but he says it does help. Best wishes to you both, K
Hi thank you , we did try that and while it works for a while we would need a vat of it as it's all over his body .
Yeah, I know 😒
I have eczema and use a prescribed steroid cream eIocon. I must stress l do not have liver problems and don't know if it would be suitable for anyone who does, so if you do want to try it, please speak to your doc who can decide. Best wishes.

HiI know a lot of us who have PBC are on rifampicin to help with the itch x
Hi there , thanks for the reply. I think im a bit out of my depth here. I dont know what type of drug that is and PBC ? . I hope you are keeping healthy though and tha is again .
PBC (Primary Biliary Cholangitis) is an autoimmune liver disease. The immune system attacks the bile ducks. Would be worth while suggesting rifampicin to your doctor .
Thank you . Is Rifampicin an anti biotic ? .
Yes, but not one that you would be prescribed for an infection. I don’t know why it works but it does for many of us.
Hi poppyrocks - sorry your husband is having a tough time. Would you mind me asking when the itching started? I’m having some ongoing issues myself. Were there symptoms a while prior to diagnosis or only when he was diagnosed - hoping you can find a solution - thanks
Hi there Peter 007, we dont have a diagnosis yet. He is having a liver biopsy on Monday. He started itching like crazy when Bile duct was blocked and they cleared that and his high biliruben levels stayed and the itch , jaundice too. Hope your issues resolve soon .
Whilst you say that what he is trying is useless, the itching would probably be worse without it. Prior to my transplant, it was one of the many problems that I struggled with, post transplant I still have problems that I use fenafaxadine, Dermol and Aquadrate to help.
Prior to the transplant, I found some relief by using Dr Organic Manuka Honey rescue cream from Holland and Barrett helpful but nothing actually makes it go away.
Good luck with the biopsy.
The itching drives you mad, had all sorts of prescribed creams and medicines the only thing that worked for me was Dream Cream from Lush relieved itching for a while.
