Liver and Kidney Ultra-sound Results

I have a call with my doctor later today to discuss my results. I was sent for an ultra sound scan back in September 2020, and I had this done on 11th February 2021 some 5 months later. I think the delay must have been due to covid!

My recent bloods have shown :

...........................................................................................................................18/09/20 & 23/10/20

Serum total bilirubin level umol/L [0.0 - 21.0] ....................................12 ...................8

Serum alkaline phosphatase level U/L [30.0 - 130.0] ....................138 ................81

Above high reference limit

Serum alanine aminotransferase level U/L [0.0 - 41.0] .................161 ...............21

Above high reference limit

Serum albumin level g/l [35.0 - 50.0] .....................................................46 ................45

Serum total protein level g/L [60.0 - 80.0] ..........................................64 .................66

Serum globulin level g/L [18.0 - 35.0] ...................................................18 ..................21

Serum calcium level mmol/L [2.2 - 2.6] ...............................................2.33 ..............2.35

Serum adjusted calcium concentration mmol/L [2.15 - 2.55]....2.29 ..............2.32

Serum gamma-glutamyl transferase level U/L [0.0 - 60.0] ..........374 .................81

Above high reference limit

What questions should I ask the doctor. We were particularly concerned about my GGT scores and was this related to tablets (bisporolol, Prasugrel, atorvastatin, aspirin, ramipril, ) I was on after my heart attack on 31/12/19 or was it drinking related etc. After my heart attack I cut down considerably on my drinking and high fat consumption and did more exercise.

Also my doctor took me off atorvastatin back in sept last year and have not resumed statins since this time.

I will be asking my doctor if its time for another blood test ?

Many thanks.

Hi Jon,

Whilst we appreciate your concerns over your bloods, we do clearly ask in our community guidelines not to post your test results. Nobody on the forum is qualified to advise you.

Here is a link to our publication 'Liver disease tests explained' that may be helpful:

We hope your consultation with your doctor helps, you may also want to check what was found on the ultrasound scan.

Kind regards.

What were the results of your ultrasound scan? Did it show fatty liver, or any other abnormalities? And how much were you drinking pre-September, and for how long?

I would ask the doctor the following:

- How much is it safe to drink alcohol, or is it safe to drink alcohol at all?

- How long will it take for GGT to come down all the way?

- I'd also ask about things like diet and exercise.

Not what you're looking for?
