Bit of hope

Hi. Just quickly sharing my story. M/50. Drank heavily for thirty years between the ages of 15 and 45. Admitted to hospital many times, eventually drinking 60+ units a day for months on end. Lived on the streets and in wet houses. Needless to say my liver and associated organs were in very poor shape. However after five years of sobriety and healthy habits all is much, much better. You can do it. Be diligent and if booze is the cause, remove it. I didn’t think I’d see thirty.

Brilliant Davey, well done! I've gone from needing a transplant to my liver managing okay. I never thought I could stop drinking: stop or die was a very easy choice and I feel so much better all round without it.Hope your recovery goes from strength to strength, thanks for such a positive post.

Fantastic. Well done. Keep looking forward now. Look at who you are NOW and walk proudly into the future. You are a warrior to overcome the most pushed and promoted toxic addi ctive drug that our society turns a blind eye to ,and yet shames those who struggle with it. A bright future lies ahead of you. Well done!

thanks. I am forever perplexed at how this most poisonous and addictive substance is legal.

Indeed! Money / revenue I guess. Although if one adds up the role it plays in crime and cost to the NHS, I wonder what the " profit" is. Good luck , my friend.

Yeah that and it’s a pressure valve: people have hard lives.

thanks Dave for this - I’ve never posted on here but after doing well in my recovery - no alcohol, no symptoms for 9 months I’m having a wobble about the future and what that might be! Good to hear people are continuing to do well

Well done. The future is unknown but don’t make it drunk! I used to drink because I was scared it was killing me.
