I have tons of food allergies and thought that was what I had been reacting to. But no matter what I eat - even things not on my list of allergies - and I get serious pitting edema plus other symptoms.
My doctor said he suspects liver problem. Now, that makes sense to me! I know just about nothing regarding liver disease, so I'm in the dark about it. But it makes sense that all the symptoms I get can't be from allergies alone. I tested this theory by going to fast food the other day and ordering something i've been avoiding. Voila! No allergy symptoms!
So, I really suspect the doctor is right to think my liver may be causing my symptoms. I have to get the lab tests first. (He forgot to order them, LOL, no big deal). Several years ago I had a diagnostic laparoscopy and had my gallbladder removed at that time. It showed that a corner of my liver was calcified. It was otherwise okay at that time. I don't drink alcohol of any kind - just don't like it. And I'm very careful with what I eat and what meds I take.
I am wondering what kind of liver problem I might possibly have. I don't know the different issues that affect the liver.
Can someone kind of educate me? Thank you!

Thank you so much for the information. It was very, very helpful. I am surprised at how many diseases and problems there are with the liver.
Now at least I can discuss this with my doctor in a more educated way!!
Thank you again!
By the way, I risked eating foods that I thought were causing my symptoms. They're not. At least now I can eat better meals, knowing that it's not allergies all the time, but I need to pay attention to the health of my liver, too. I am feeling a little better, too.
